Thanks to more open visa policies, effective tourism promotion campaigns, and demand-stimulation programs, Vietnam's tourism sector welcomed 10.6 million international visitors during the first five months of 2026, marking a record-high figure for this period and highlighting the strong recovery and growth of the country's tourism industry.

According to data released by the General Statistics Office on June 3, Vietnam welcomed an estimated 1.78 million international visitors in May 2026, an increase of 16.5% compared with the same period last year. In total, the country received 10.6 million international arrivals during the first five months of 2026, up 14.9% year-on-year and the highest figure ever recorded for the January–May period.
Of the total, 8.7 million visitors arrived by air, accounting for 82.3% of all international arrivals and representing an 11% increase compared with the same period in 2025. Arrivals by land reached 1.7 million, surging 40.8%, while more than 202,000 visitors arrived by sea, up 15.4%.
The strong growth in international tourism has contributed significantly to the expansion of the hospitality sector. Revenue from accommodation and food services during the first five months of the year reached VND 400.4 trillion, accounting for 12.6% of total retail sales and consumer service revenue nationwide, an increase of 13.3% compared with the previous year.
Several localities recorded particularly strong growth in tourism-related revenues, including An Giang (up 24.4%), Ninh Binh (19.2%), Da Nang (18.9%), Hue (18.6%), and Quang Ninh (18.5%). Other notable increases were reported in Hai Phong (14.6%), Can Tho (13.1%), Ho Chi Minh City (10.3%), and Hanoi (9.2%).
Meanwhile, revenue from travel and tour services reached VND 40.6 trillion, up 12.2% compared with the same period last year. According to the statistical agency, this growth was supported by favorable visa policies, effective tourism promotion and demand-stimulation programs, and continuous improvements in service quality.
Among localities, Khanh Hoa recorded the highest growth in travel service revenue at 33.8%, followed by Quang Ninh(25.4%), Quang Ngai (23.3%), Hue (18.7%), Hai Phong (15.6%), Hanoi (12.5%), and Ho Chi Minh City (8.2%).
The General Statistics Office noted that the tourism sector’s impressive performance is the result of multiple contributing factors, including Vietnam’s stable and safe socio-political environment, increasingly open visa policies, and more professional and effective tourism promotion efforts. At the same time, the country has continued to diversify and innovate its tourism products to meet evolving market demands, while steadily improving service quality, enhancing Vietnam’s attractiveness as a destination on the global tourism map.
