Unique water procession ritual at Nham Duong Pagoda

The Nham Duong Pagoda Festival in Nhi Chieu Ward (Hai Phong) is held annually from the 4th to the 7th day of the third lunar month.
The traditional festival of Nham Duong Pagoda is an occasion to commemorate and pay tribute to Zen Master Thuy Nguyet – National Master Dao Nam Thong Giac, the founding patriarch of the Tao Dong Zen sect in Vietnam.Among the series of solemn rituals, the water procession ceremony is always the highlight, attracting a large number of Buddhists, visitors, and local residents.This ritual is not merely a religious activity but also carries profound meaning, symbolizing purification and prayers for national peace, favorable weather, abundant harvests, and a prosperous, happy life.The water is drawn from the ancient Nham well, a sacred well closely associated with the centuries-old history of the pagoda and the local area.The water vessel is then placed on a palanquin and ceremonially carried back to Nham Duong Pagoda.According to folk beliefs, the water from the ancient Nham Well contains pure spiritual energy, capable of dispelling misfortune and bringing blessings.
