An Phu commune of Hai Phong city held a ceremony on October 31 to announce the Prime Minister’s decision recognizing woodblocks of Tram Gian pagoda as a national treasure.
Speaking at the event, Vice Chairman of the city People’s Committee Nguyen Minh Hung emphasized that the recognition of the woodblocks as a national treasure is evidence of the rich, distinctive, and invaluable cultural identity embodied in Tram Gian pagoda.

This is an honor for the Party, government, and people of Hai Phong in general and An Phu commune in particular, Hung said.
The vice chairman required the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to coordinate with the commune People’s Committee in managing, protecting, preserving, and promoting the value of both the relic site and the national treasure – the woodblocks of Tram Gian pagoda.

Hung expressed his belief that with effective implementation of tasks and active support from ministries and Central agencies, especially the Department of Cultural Heritage, An Phu commune will become an attractive and unique destination representing the distinctive cultural identity of the city.

The woodblocks of Tram Gian pagoda comprise 864 pieces of various genres, produced over many periods, mainly during the Nguyen Dynasty and a few from the Le Dynasty (17th – 18th centuries). The earliest woodblock dates back to the reign of King Le Canh Hung (1750).
