Preserving trees and natural landscapes helps enhance the value of historical sites, creating a balanced ecological environment while reflecting local authorities’ responsibility in safeguarding heritage.

Located in the forested mountains of Con Son – Kiep Bac, the heritage site is surrounded by centuries-old pine forest pine forests and ancient trees. The Con Son – Kiep Bac Heritage Management Board conducts regular inspections and maintenance of the ancient pine forest, removing diseased trees, clearing storm damage and planting replacement trees. Regular cleaning and waste collection are maintained, and visitors are reminded not to damage vegetation, particularly during peak festival periods when visitor numbers surge.
Nguyen Van Hoc, deputy head of the Con Son – Kiep Bac Heritage Management Board, said preserving the ancient pine forests and trees not only improves the landscape but also plays an important role in the long-term conservation of the site.

At the Cao An Phu Temple national special relic site on An Phu Mountain, forest vegetation and ancient trees are also maintained, helping preserve the site’s distinctive character and sacred beauty. Following storm damage and several small forest fires, management authorities have strengthened fire prevention measures
Many of the city’s major heritage sites are closely linked to natural forest ecosystems. The ancient pine forests at Con Son – Kiep Bac and the wooded landscape surrounding Cao An Phu Temple not only create distinctive scenery but also contribute to the sites’ unique identity.
Special-use forests provide ecological value while also enhancing the visual appeal of heritage sites. However, forest protection, particularly for protected forests, faces ongoing pressure, especially during the festival season.

Pham Hong Hai, head of the Hai Phong Forest Protection Sub-Department under the Department of Agriculture and Environment, said protected forests are strictly managed. When forest-fire warnings reach levels 4 or 5, forest rangers remain on duty around the clock and coordinate with relevant agencies to implement fire prevention and response measures.
Protecting and developing forests in connection with the preservation of historical and cultural sites is seen as a long-term approach to enhancing heritage value. Sustaining green landscapes also strengthens the ecological value and tourism appeal of the heritage sites.
