The Hai Phong Department of Foreign Affairs, in cooperation with the Japan Foundation Center for Cultural Exchange in Vietnam, organized the art program Hanaen (Floral Banquet) at the city Opera House on the evening of October 4.
Attending the event were Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Ito Naoki, his spouse, and Vice Chairman of the Hai Phong People’s Committee Hoang Minh Cuong, among others.

In his opening speech, Cuong emphasized that throughout its development journey, Hai Phong has always considered culture the spiritual foundation of society and a sustainable bridge in international cooperation.
Over the years, the city and its Japanese partners have carried out many diverse exchanges in education, arts, and economic cooperation, contributing to strengthening mutual understanding and friendship. The Hanaen program, he said, was a vivid reflection of that cooperative spirit.

The year 2025 marks an important milestone as the Extensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and Japan continues to be consolidated and expanded across multiple fields. Hai Phong – a dynamic, modern, and globally connected port city – is also affirming its role as an important international exchange hub in Northern Vietnam.
In that context, cultural exchange activities like yesterday’s event are increasingly meaningful, enriching the spiritual life of local people while deepening the friendship between the peoples of the two nations. The event also paved the way for more diverse and vibrant cultural and cooperative activities between Hai Phong and Japanese localities and partners in the future.

Ambassador Ito Naoki expressed his pleasure in attending the event and hoped Hai Phong audience would enjoy the performances and gain a deeper understanding of Japanese culture and art.
He noted that Hai Phong has been actively promoting Japanese language education in schools and expressed his hope that both sides would continue to strengthen cooperation in culture and education to further develop the friendship between Hai Phong and Japanese localities and partners.
During the program, delegates and art-loving audience in the city enjoyed impressive performances by Hai Phong students and Japan’s Hanabi dance group.

Beyond the professional performances, the event also provided an opportunity for Hai Phong students – young learners of Japanese – to showcase their talent and passion for Japanese culture. 80 students from eight schools presented creative performances blending traditional and modern cultural elements, delivering emotionally resonant moments for the audience.
The program left a lasting impression of friendship and cultural harmony. It was not only an art performance but also a bridge helping Hai Phong’s young people and citizens deepen their understanding of Japanese culture.
