For 80 years since President Ho Chi Minh first visited Hai Phong, the city’s women have cherished his teachings, upheld their traditions, embraced innovation and creativity, and followed his example through practical action.

Following Uncle Ho’s example through concrete action
On the occasion of the 96th founding anniversary of the Vietnam Women’s Union, Vu Thi Thanh Thuy, Chairwoman of the Women’s Union of Thuong Hong Commune, was honored with the Nguyen Thi Dinh Award by the Vietnam Women’s Union for outstanding union officials. The award recognizes her dedication and contributions over 18 years of service to the organization.
Keeping President Ho Chi Minh’s teachings on compassion in mind, Thuy has actively connected businesses and philanthropists with five orphaned children to provide sponsorship for periods of one to three years. She also mobilized donations for 42 gift packages for the mothers and wives of fallen soldiers, as well as 37 Tet gift packages for union members, women and children facing difficult circumstances.
Also inspired by his teachings on compassion, the “Jar of compassionate rice” initiative launched by the Women’s Union branch in Duong Mong Village, An Thanh Commune, has become a bridge connecting people willing to help others in the community. Whenever residents mill rice, they set aside a portion to contribute to a shared rice jar, providing support for union members in difficult circumstances.

Tran Thu Huong, Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hai Phong and Chairwoman of the City Women’s Union, emphasized that President Ho Chi Minh’s affection and guidance during his visits to the city have become a source of encouragement, inspiring generations of women to strive and contribute to the development and defense of their homeland. His words remain a valuable source of spiritual motivation, treasured and remembered by generations of union officials and members and translated into practical action.
Hai Phong women confidently step into a new era
Continuing the spirit of patriotic emulation movements during the resistance wars, women in Hai Phong today integrate the study and application of Ho Chi Minh’s thought, morality and style into their union activities, linking them to practical issues in everyday life.
A prominent initiative is the “Building Vietnamese women in the new era” movement, which union branches at all levels have adapted into the campaign to develop “Virtuous, capable, talented and creative Hai Phong women,” alongside learning from and following President Ho Chi Minh’s example.
This spirit is reflected in activities supporting families, protecting the environment and building communities. Across the city, 1,468 “Five no’s, three clean” clubs with more than 125,000 members remain active, alongside 967 “Parent groups building families with five goods and three clean” models with nearly 20,000 members. Women’s Union branches have organized 406 environmental awareness and training sessions, attracting nearly 50,000 attendances. They also maintain 359 women’s waste collection teams and 2,425 environmental protection models.

Guided by President Ho Chi Minh’s example of compassion and mutual support, since the beginning of 2026, the Women’s Union has mobilized 32 organizations and individuals to participate in the “Foster parents” program, supporting 425 orphaned children and children in difficult circumstances with more than VND 7.3 billion. Union branches have presented more than 20,200 gift packages worth a total of over VND 8.3 billion, built 17 houses and repaired 18 “Houses of compassion,” helping provide vulnerable women and children with greater support in life.
Beyond caring for families and communities, Hai Phong women are actively pursuing economic development and mastering science and technology. Women’s Union branches are currently managing outstanding loans totaling more than VND 8.05 trillion and have supported 113,515 households with borrowing loans and registered to help 1,005 poor and near-poor women’s households escape poverty.
Digital technology is gradually becoming a regular part of the Women’s Union’s activities. Union branches have organized 33 training courses on artificial intelligence (AI), Canva, Google Sheets and other tools for 1,500 officials. Another 24 courses have guided participants in applying AI to product design and promotion on digital platforms, attracting 2,500 union members, aspiring entrepreneurs and business owners. Across the city, 97 “Digital union branch” and “Digital women” models have begun to take shape.
At a ceremony marking the 96th founding anniversary of the Vietnam Women’s Union and the 80th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh’s first visit to Hai Phong, organized by the City Women’s Union on the morning of October 15, Pham Van Lap, Deputy Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee and Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hai Phong, affirmed that studying and following President Ho Chi Minh’s example must continue to be translated into practical action in the work, labor and daily lives of every official and woman union member.
Alongside strengthening the organization, the Women’s Union should focus on unlocking women’s potential, creativity and aspirations for advancement and promoting their role in building national unity, protecting the environment and contributing to a civilized, modern and worth-living Hai Phong, he noted.
