Women in Hai Phong are marking the 2026 Ao Dai Week by wearing Vietnam’s traditional dress at schools, offices and residential quarters from March 1 to 8.

The event is part of a nationwide campaign launched by the Vietnam Women's Union in commemoration of the Trung Sisters' Uprising and International Women's Day.

Local women’s unions respond to Ao Dai Week

Local women’s unions across the city have launched a wide range of meaningful activities in response to the campaign.

In Hai An Ward, members of the local Women’s Union held an incense offering ceremony in memory of female general Le Chan, combined with the launch of Ao Dai Week and activities promoting the city’s tourism sites.

Dressed in ao dai, participants joined events at the Hai Phong Opera House, the city’s central flower gardens and flower pavilions inspired by northern Vietnamese communal house architecture.

The Women’s Union in An Hai Ward has encouraged female officials, civil servants and members to wear ao dai at work from March 1 to 8, with peak activities on March 8.

The ward also plans mass folk dance performances at public spaces and cultural and historical sites, featuring songs in praise of the Party, President Ho Chi Minh and the country.

Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, chairwoman of the Hai An Ward Women’s Union, said the event helps honor traditional dress while promoting the image of modern Vietnamese women.

From campaign to cultural habit

The practice of wearing ao dai has also spread in schools and government offices across the city.

Teachers and staff from Gia Loc Kindergarten in Gia Loc Commune recently took part in a spring outing to the Kinh Bac region in northern Vietnam.

Teachers in ao dai visited historical sites in the region, creating a graceful scene that blended traditional dress with the cultural heritage setting.

Growing awareness of cultural preservation and new ao dai designs are helping maintain the popularity of the traditional dress while promoting the image of modern Vietnamese women.
