Hai Phong has identified technology, innovation, and digital transformation as key drivers for rapid and sustainable growth.

Secretary of the Hai Phong Party Committee Le Tien Chau met with a delegation from the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), led by Vice President Dr. Chang Joon Yeon, on October 9 during their visit to attend Techfest Haiphong 2025.
Chau noted that cooperation between Hai Phong and KIST has been translated into practical joint programs. The meeting aimed not only to advance the contents of a memorandum of understanding signed between the Hai Phong People’s Committee and KIST in April 2024, but also to discuss and specify follow-up actions based on discussions with the KIST President in South Korea last August to serve the upcoming cooperation signing ceremony between the city and KIST this November in Hai Phong.

As one of Vietnam’s major industrial, service, and logistics centers, Hai Phong is pursuing its goal of becoming a modern, smart, and sustainable industrial city. Science, technology, and innovation have been defined as central drivers for this process.
Chau proposed that KIST consider supporting Hai Phong in key areas such as developing research and technology transfer units, establishing hubs for technology transfer and reception, and providing consultancy for transforming selected industrial parks or clusters into high-tech models. He also called for cooperation in other fields where the city seeks technological support.
Hai Phong, he said, will create all favorable conditions for KIST and other Korean partners to successfully implement their cooperation activities in the city.

The Secretary expressed confidence that with KIST’s valuable experience and effective support, together with Hai Phong’s determination and existing potential, the partnership between the two sides will continue to grow stronger and more effective, helping Hai Phong become a leading innovation hub in the North and Vietnam as a whole.
On behalf of the delegation, Dr. Chang Joon Yeon affirmed that KIST is ready to provide support and share experience with Hai Phong within its capacity.
He said the visit reflects KIST’s goodwill and the city’s commitment to developing science, technology, and innovation. From this promising start, he hoped KIST and Hai Phong would further realize their cooperation agreement, expand technology transfer and research exchange programs, and strengthen ties between Korean partners and Hai Phong across fields of mutual interest.
