Hai Phong and Yeongam are expected to establish more cooperation mechanisms in various fields, especially education and training, to foster the friendly relationship between the two localities in particular and between the two countries in general.
A delegation from the Office of Education of Yeongam county in the Republic of Korea (RoK), led by Director Kim Kwang Soo, paid a working visit to the Hai Phong Department of Education and Training on the morning of August 12.
At the meeting, leaders of the Department of Education and Training shared information about Hai Phong’s education scale and system, which includes 1,608 educational institutions, 8 universities, 652 foreign language centers and facilities for learning of foreign languages, informatics, and life skills, 77 vocational education institutions, and more than 1.1 million students.
With the attention of the city’s leadership, the determination of the Department of Education and Training and educational institutions, and the active support from the RoK, in the 2023–2024 school year, Hai Phong became the first city nationwide to implement the Korean language curriculum as Foreign Language 1 under the Ministry of Education and Training’s general education program.
By the 2024–2025 school year, 40 educational institutions across the city had taught Korean to thousands of students, who also participated in Korean cultural activities in the form of Foreign Languages 1 and 2, and language clubs. This has helped Hai Phong become one of the model localities in educational cooperation and cultural exchange between the two countries.
In the time ahead, more educational institutions in the city will continue to introduce and expand Korean language teaching in various forms. The city’s education sector hopes to continue receiving support from the Yeongam Office of Education in terms of materials, curricula, and teachers, thereby further promoting the Korean learning movement and improving the quality of Korean language teaching in Hai Phong.
The delegation from the Yeongam Office of Education stated that it will jointly organize exchanges for students from both localities to learn about each other’s culture, country, and people, practice the language, and strengthen solidarity, becoming a bridge of culture and friendship between the young generations of the two countries.
The delegation also expressed the hope that after this meeting, the two sides will establish more cooperation mechanisms in various fields, especially education and training, to foster the friendly relationship between the two localities in particular and between Vietnam and the RoK in general.
