Joining the nationwide festive atmosphere welcoming the Lunar New Year 2026, Hai Phong enters a transitional moment as an active maritime city expanding connections and strengthening its international presence.
Comprehensive diplomatic imprints
In 2025, the city's foreign affairs activities were vibrant, comprehensive, and effective, fully leveraging the role of ‘leading and paving the way’ across political, economic, cultural diplomacy, and work with overseas Vietnamese. These efforts created imprints and elevated Hai Phong's status in the eyes of international friends.
With a proactive spirit to welcome foreign investment wave, the city high-level delegations led by, Hai Phong Party Committee Secretary Le Tien Chau promoted investment in South Korea, the Czech Republic, and the Kingdom of Belgium. The series of working sessions, bilateral meetings, and dialogues with businesses and partners in these countries were implemented systematically, with clear focus and priorities.
The city also successfully co-hosted the 3rd Meeting of the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC III). At the conference, Hai Phong granted investment licences and signed memoranda of understanding for 39 projects, with total committed capital exceeding 15.6 billion USD...
These activities contributed to a dynamic year of investment and business attraction in Hai Phong. Currently, the city hosts over 1,700 effective projects from investors in 44 countries and territories, with total capital surpassing 50 billion USD. In 2025, Hai Phong also marked many vibrant and effective foreign affairs activities. The city hosted and participated in 29 diplomatic events, welcomed 22 international delegations, helping widely promote the city's image.
Momentum for Hai Phong’s diplomacy to further development
Building on these achievements, Hai Phong enters the Year of the Horse 2026 with expectations that diplomacy will be a key driver for the city's socio-economic development.
In 2026, Hai Phong's foreign affairs will focus on enhancing the effectiveness of signing international cooperation agreements; maximizing benefits from bilateral and multilateral FTAs and cooperation frameworks. Proactively promote new economic agreements, especially in the Vietnam-China economic corridor cooperation program; while reviewing, monitoring, and timely adjusting international commitments to fit the two-tier government model.
In the festive atmosphere of the early days of the new Spring, comprehensive diplomacy has become a symbol of Hai Phong's open, proactive, and confident spirit. The convergence of political, economic, cultural diplomacy, and people-to-people exchanges creates comprehensive strength, helping the city move closer to rapid and sustainable development goals. This is the foundation for Hai Phong to step into the new year with the mindset of a modern maritime city, aspiring and ready to reach further in international integration journey.
