Offering free or discounted accommodation to tourists stranded on Cat Ba island due to storm No. 5 contributed to promoting the positive image of the local tourism.

According to the People’s Committee of Cat Hai special zone, Hai Phong city, the Dong Bai–Cai Vieng ferry resumed normal operations at 10 am on August 26, allowing some stranded tourists to return to the mainland.
Earlier, due to the impact of Storm No. 5, ferry operations between Dong Bai and Cai Vieng were suspended from August 25, leaving some visitors unable to leave the island in time.
The People’s Committee of Cat Hai special zone then instructed local tourism service providers to ensure guest safety and encouraged them to maximize discounts. Accommodation businesses were asked to reduce room rates by 50% for stranded tourists.
In line with this directive, all lodging establishments agreed to cut room prices by half and minimize service fees during the forced stay. Notably, some hotels voluntarily waived 100% of accommodation charges for affected guests.
Such gestures have long been practiced by Cat Ba’s tourism businesses during natural disasters, contributing to the island’s positive image and leaving a lasting impression on both domestic and international visitors.
