According to the Hai Phong Hydro-Meteorological Station, over the past 24 hours, Hai Phong city has recorded moderate to heavy rain, with some areas seeing very heavy rain and thunderstorms.
From 7 pm on August 14 to 7 pm on August 15, rainfall ranged from 50 to 100 mm in most areas, with higher amounts in some locations such as Do Nghi (157 mm), Hai Duong (133 mm), Phu Luong (146 mm), and Cat Ba (186 mm).
In the next 24 to 48 hours, under the influence of a trough running across the Northern region combined with high-altitude wind convergence, Hai Phong is expected to have moderate to heavy rain, with some areas experiencing very showers and thunderstorms from tonight, August 15, through August 17. Rainfall is forecast at 60 – 150 mm.
From the night of August 17 to August 18, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected, with localized moderate to heavy rain. Rainfall will range from 15 to 30 mm, with some areas exceeding 50 mm. The risk of natural disasters from heavy rain is rated at level 1.
Heavy rainfall may cause a high risk of landslides, especially in areas with steep terrain.
Authorities warn that heavy rain may be accompanied by thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning, hail, and strong gusts of wind, which can cause trees to fall, damage houses, transportation infrastructure, and public facilities.
Prolonged rain may also lead to overloading of urban drainage systems, flooding in residential areas, traffic congestion, reduced visibility, slippery roads, and an increased risk of accidents.
