After years of investing in infrastructure, renewing tourism products, and improving service quality, coastal tourism in Hai Phong is experiencing a strong transformation in both scale and quality.

The 2026 summer tourism season has opened with many positive signals for the tourism industry in Hai Phong. On weekends, roads leading to the coastal tourism areas of Do Son Beach and Cat Ba Island are crowded with visitors. According to statistics from the city’s tourism sector, during the Hung Kings Commemoration Day and the April 30 – May 1 holiday in 2026, Hai Phong welcomed an estimated 1.45 million visitors, up around 32% compared to the same period last year, while tourism revenue was estimated at more than VND 1.12 trillion. These figures show that Hai Phong’s tourism industry is entering a new phase of development with increasingly visible momentum.
Whereas the city’s tourism sector was once mainly associated with short beach vacations, Hai Phong is now gradually building a diverse marine tourism ecosystem that caters to different groups of travelers and evolving travel trends.
After Ha Long Bay – Cat Ba Archipelago was recognized by UNESCO as a World Natural Heritage Site, the number of international visitors to Cat Ba increased sharply, especially tourists from Europe and Northeast Asia.
During the four-day April 30 and May 1 holiday alone, the Cat Ba tourism area welcomed around 106,500 visitors, including more than 16,300 international tourists. In addition to its natural landscape advantages, green tourism products, high-end resorts, marine eco-tourism experiences, community-based tourism, and nighttime entertainment activities are increasingly attracting travelers.
Not only Cat Ba, but Do Son Beach is also gradually regaining its position as a major coastal tourism hub in northern Vietnam. The emergence of large-scale resort and entertainment complexes is helping reshape the area’s tourism landscape and offering visitors more diverse experiences.
Ms. Nguyen Thu Ha, a tourist from Hanoi, shared: “Many years ago, I thought Do Son was only suitable for day trips. But in recent years, the services have improved significantly, with more entertainment areas, beautiful hotels, and cleaner surroundings. My family often chooses Hai Phong for short holidays because it’s convenient to travel to and offers many experiences.”
Notably, Do Son continues to attract major tourism investment projects. One of them is the Hai Phong International Convention, Trade and Tourism Center project, with a total investment of more than VND 2.11 trillion. The project includes modern facilities such as a five-star hotel with around 180 rooms, a 1,000-seat convention center, a casino area, and a large-scale prize-winning electronic gaming system, and is scheduled to break ground this May.
A noteworthy aspect of the project is its balanced development approach between modernization and preservation. It will retain Van Hoa Castle and the natural landscape of Hill 72 while adding green spaces and seaside walking routes. This is considered an important step in transforming Do Son from a traditional beach resort destination into an international center for resorts, entertainment, and conferences.

The vibrant atmosphere clearly reflects the rising appeal of Hai Phong’s coastal tourism after years of synchronized investment in infrastructure and tourism products.
Alongside renewing tourism offerings, Hai Phong has been heavily investing in transport infrastructure and regional connectivity. The Hanoi – Hai Phong and Hai Phong – Quang Ninh expressways, Cat Bi International Airport, the Cat Hai – Phu Long cable car, and interregional high-speed ferry routes are creating major advantages for the city’s tourism industry.
Notably, the tourist route connecting Ha Long Bay and Lan Ha Bay is opening up new opportunities for regional tourism development and helping Hai Phong integrate more deeply into the international heritage tourism network.
Recent adjustments to the planning of Do Son and Cat Ba have also created new room for the development of Hai Phong’s coastal and island tourism. In Do Son, around 290 hectares of water surface area are planned to be converted into mixed-use urban, service and tourism land, laying the foundation for future large-scale resort and entertainment complexes.
Meanwhile, Cat Ba is being developed under a more sustainable orientation, with additional tourism land while maintaining large areas of specialized green space to ensure a balance between economic growth and ecological conservation.
According to Mr. Tran Van Ngoc, Deputy Director of the Hai Phong Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the city is focusing on building a green, modern, professional and distinctive marine tourism brand. Cat Ba is being oriented toward becoming an international marine eco-tourism center, while Do Son is developing into a large-scale destination for resort tourism, entertainment, conferences and seminars.
Hai Phong is not only aiming to increase visitor numbers but also focusing on improving service quality, extending visitors’ length of stay and increasing tourism spending. The city is prioritizing the development of signature tourism products, promoting regional linkages, green transformation and digital transformation to enhance the competitiveness of Hai Phong tourism in the new phase.
In addition to its coastal and island advantages, Hai Phong is also effectively connecting marine tourism with cultural, spiritual and culinary tourism to make the destination more attractive. Following the expansion and integration of development space, the city now possesses additional heritage values such as Con Son – Kiep Bac, opening opportunities for multi-experience linked tours. Products such as the “Hai Phong Food Tour,” the “Sacred Traces of Hang Kenh” night tour, and the Ha Long Bay – Lan Ha Bay tourism route are enriching the city’s tourism ecosystem.
From impressive growth figures to shifts in development thinking, Hai Phong’s marine tourism brand is becoming increasingly well established. Beyond its stunning coastal and island landscapes, Hai Phong is making its mark through dynamism, modernity and the strong aspirations of a port city transforming itself into a leading marine tourism hub in northern Vietnam.
