With 7.1 million TEUs handled, Hai Phong port ranked 30th worldwide and second in Vietnam for container throughput in 2024.
According to DynaLiners Millionaires, Hai Phong port secured the 30th spot globally and second in Vietnam with a container throughput of 7.1 million TEUs in 2024.
Alongside Hai Phong port, Ho Chi Minh city port (9.1 million TEUs) and the Cai Mep - Thi Vai port cluster (7 million TEUs) also made the list, ranking 22nd and 31st respectively.
With these results, Vietnam was placed 6th among countries with the highest container throughput. The combined total handled by the three ports reached more than 23.2 million TEUs in 2024, a 16% increase compared with 2023.
Hai Phong port area has maintained a consistently high growth rate in recent years, averaging 12 – 15% annually. In the first seven months of 2025 alone, cargo throughput across Hai Phong’s seaport system reached 65.5 million tons.
At Lach Huyen terminals alone, container throughput reached 1.2 million TEUs, up 34% from the same period in 2024. For the full year 2025, throughput at this area is expected to reach 2.2 million TEUs.
Overall, Hai Phong port has set a target of handling 112 million tons of cargo in 2025.
The DynaLiners Millionaires rankings included 157 seaports worldwide, each handling at least 1 million TEUs.
Topping the list were Chinese ports, which collectively processed over 300 million TEUs in 2024, an 8% increase year-on-year.
