Hai Phong outlines Q1 priorities after Lunar New Year

Authorities in Hai Phong called on agencies to resume normal operations after the Lunar New Year holiday at a meeting on Feb. 22, setting priorities for the first quarter of 2026.

The meeting was chaired by Le Ngoc Chau, chairman of the municipal People’s Committee and a member of the Party Central Committee. Vice chairpersons and leaders of city departments also attended the meeting.

Holiday held safely, markets stable

City officials said the Lunar New Year holiday was organized safely, with adequate preparations and stable market conditions in line with central government directives. Supplies of essential goods were sufficient and no shortages or price spikes were reported.

Social support programs were implemented across the city, focusing on low-income households and workers in need.

During the holiday, authorities distributed gifts to 288,022 state contributors and their families, with total funding exceeding VND 603.2 billion. That marked a 73.1% increase compared with the previous Lunar New Year. More than VND 23.5 billion was allocated to support 14,517 poor and near-poor households.

Political security and public order remained stable throughout the holiday.

Revenue, tourism post gains

Hai Phong’s socio-economic performance continued to show positive momentum. As of Feb. 21, state budget revenue reached more than VND 37.1 trillion, equivalent to 19% of the annual target and 73.6% of the first-quarter plan. Revenue was up 8.1% compared with the two-month target, according to city’s data.

During the holiday break, Hai Phong received more than 910,000 arrivals, up 45.7% year-on-year. Tourism revenue was estimated at over VND 746 billion.

Focus on growth, public investment

Looking ahead, the city will prioritize implementation of its 2026 socio-economic development plan, including growth targets, budget collection and public investment disbursement.

Authorities will also step up preparations for elections to the 16th National Assembly and People’s Councils for the 2026–2031 term.

The city plans to accelerate major projects and increase the pace of public investment disbursement from the start of the year, particularly for large-scale projects.

In his concluding remarks, Chairman Le Ngoc Chau commended departments for their efforts in organizing the Tet holiday. He urged agencies to return immediately to regular work schedules. Departments were instructed to review assigned tasks under the city’s 2026 GRDP growth and public investment plans and ensure timely implementation.

He also called for decisive execution of policies to meet first-quarter and full-year growth targets.
