Hai Phong discusses cooperation with KICT on developing smart urban infrastructure

The urban infrastructure technologies developed by the Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology (KICT) are well aligned with Hai Phong’s smart urban development strategy.

On the morning of May 13, Vice Chairman Hoang Minh Cuong chaired a working session with a delegation from the Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology (KICT), led by Vice President Kang Tai Kyung, during their visit to explore investment and cooperation opportunities in Hai Phong.

Vice Chairman Hoang Minh Cuong highly appreciated KICT’s technologies, noting that they have strong practical applications and are well suited to Hai Phong’s smart urban development orientation. He also shared the city’s approach toward applying open technologies that can be transferred and adapted to local conditions and development needs.

Leaders of the Hai Phong People’s Committee and relevant departments worked with the Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology.

Vice Chairman Hoang Minh Cuong expressed his hope that following this meeting, both sides would have more opportunities to exchange information and explore cooperation potential in areas of mutual interest. With its vision of developing into a modern, green, smart, and sustainable city, Hai Phong aims to strengthen cooperation with Korean research institutes, scientific organizations, and technology partners to access advanced solutions that can effectively support the city’s future development.

At the meeting, representatives of Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology introduced the institute’s key roles and functions in researching and developing technologies to improve national infrastructure efficiency, respond to natural disasters, promote environmentally friendly land development, apply integrated construction technologies, and utilize high-performance building materials. KICT also expressed its desire to cooperate with Hai Phong in the fields of infrastructure development, construction technology, and smart urban development.

Some of the specific technologies introduced by KICT to Hai Phong during the meeting included: photocatalytic air purification systems; CO2-absorbing and carbon-storing concrete; environmentally friendly pavement solutions that help reduce fine dust and urban heat; smart autonomous transport infrastructure; smart construction management based on real-time data; intelligent lighting control systems using real-time traffic data; AI-based urban planning; and integrated AI-powered flood forecasting platforms.
