Korean business community deepens ties with Hai Phong

South Korea is one of the largest investors in Hai Phong city, with 320 projects and total registered capital of over USD 15.4 billion.

On the afternoon of January 16, the Hai Phong Vietnam–Korea Friendship Association, in coordination with the Korean Residents Association in Hai Phong and the Korean Business Association in Hai Phong, organized the Vietnam–Korea Cooperation Exchange Program to welcome the New Year 2026.

The event was attended by Member of the Standing Committee of the Hai Phong Party Committee, Standing Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee and President of the Hai Phong Vietnam–Korea Friendship Association Le Anh Quan.

Former Vietnamese Ambassador to the Republic of Korea and Vice President of the Central Vietnam–Korea Friendship Association Pham Tien Van, along with representatives of municipal departments, agencies and related organizations also attended the program.

In his speech, Standing Vice Chairman Le Anh Quan stressed that 2025 was a year of particular significance amid regional and global complex developments, directly affecting the economic, investment and international cooperation environment.

Against this backdrop, Vietnam–Korea relations have continued to develop steadily, particularly after the two countries elevated their ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

In particular, Hai Phong recorded GRDP growth of 11.81 percent, ranking second nationwide and leading among the six centrally-run cities. Industrial production increased by over 15 percent, remaining the main driver of growth. FDI was another bright spot, with total FDI inflows in 2025 of over USD 3.8 billion. South Korea continued to be one of Hai Phong’s largest investors, with 320 projects and total registered capital of over USD 15.4 billion.

The Standing Vice Chairman emphasized that the city’s overall achievements in 2025 reflected the significant contributions of the Korean community and Korean enterprises.

In addition to economic contributions, Korean businesses have actively participated in social and cultural activities, strengthening bonds, mutual understanding and trust between the two sides.

Looking ahead to 2026, the Standing Vice Chairman called on the Hai Phong Vietnam–Korea Friendship Association to continue renovated its operation, promote its role in people-to-people diplomacy, and accompany the municipal authorities in connecting businesses and promoting cooperation in investment, trade, culture and people-to-people exchanges.

On this occasion, 22 Vietnamese and Korean individuals were awarded certificates of merit by the President of the Hai Phong Vietnam–Korea Friendship Association for their contributions to strengthening friendship and cooperation between the people of Hai Phong and the Republic of Korea in 2025.
