The Hai Phong Rowing Training Center has been selected to host a continental-level sporting event for the first time ever in Vietnam.

World-class venue
The decision to host the Asian Rowing Championship, signed on August 1, 2025, by Nguyen Hong Minh, Deputy Director General of the Vietnam Sports Administration, officially brought the largest continental rowing event ever in Vietnam to Hai Phong.
Previously, the center hosted several major regional tournaments, most recently the U19 and U23 Southeast Asian Rowing and Canoeing Championships from late June to early July 2024.

Earlier, during the 31st Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 31) in 2022, the center was entrusted with organizing rowing and canoeing/kayak competitions.
In addition, many national tournaments have also been held here, demonstrating not only professionalism and coordination in event organization but also the center’s ability to meet rigorous facility standards for each competition.

According to Nguyen Hai Duong, Vice President and General Secretary of the Vietnam Rowing Federation, the Hai Phong Rowing Training Center benefits from favorable natural conditions and well-developed infrastructure, with convenient access from athletes’ accommodations to the competition site.
“This is the main reason the Hai Phong Rowing Training Center was chosen by the Asian Rowing Federation to host the continent’s top rowing event. With continued investment and expansion, the center could even host world-level competitions in the future,” said Duong.
Major opportunity to promote Hai Phong internationally

The Asian Rowing Championship will bring together more than 230 male and female athletes, along with coaches and officials from 18 countries and territories, including India, Taiwan and Hong Kong (China), Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, North Korea, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, and host Vietnam. The competitors will race in 20 men’s and women’s events over a 2,000-m course.
Duong added that beyond the large number of participating delegations and athletes, the attendance of Jean Christophe Rolland, President of World Rowing, will be a special highlight, not only for Hai Phong but also for Vietnamese rowing as a whole. The event will be an opportunity to promote Hai Phong’s rowing movement as well as its land and people to international friends.

Pham Thi To Trang, Deputy Director of the city Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, emphasized that the championship showcases the city’s organizational capacity and credibility while also serving as a valuable chance to promote its rich history, culture, and scenic beauty.
During their stay in Hai Phong, many international delegations and athletes may wish to visit the city’s tourist attractions. Relevant departments will coordinate to meet these requests, helping to further share Hai Phong’s image, culture, and landscape with international friends.
