Before the merger with Hai Duong province, Hai Phong city ranked 5th nationwide in e-commerce. This advantage needs to be further promoted.

Many small- and medium-sized enterprises are breaking through, bringing products directly to consumers through digital platforms and e-commerce

Quang Hai Co., Ltd. in Cat Hai special zone, Hai Phong city annually participates in fairs and exhibitions to introduce its products to consumers. However, instead of relying solely on traditional channels, since 2022, the company has shifted strongly to the digital space, focusing on social media platforms such as TikTok and Facebook.

This approach has brought the enterprise’s products closer to young customers, while enabling it to receive feedback and improve products in a timely manner. Trade promotion can no longer simply mean displaying products at fairs, but must integrate multiple channels to maximize effectiveness.

In fact, not only enterprises but also many households trading in agricultural products, food, and handicrafts in Hai Phong have quickly brought their products onto e-commerce platforms and social networking sites. With low costs, wide accessibility, and clear measurement tools, online sales channels are helping them expand markets, reach customers both domestically and internationally, and gradually increase competitiveness.

The success stories of businesses demonstrate Hai Phong’s vast potential for e-commerce development. From large enterprises to small household businesses, all can take advantage of the digital environment.

Despite global economic fluctuations between 2021 and 2025, Vietnam’s e-commerce has maintained a growth rate of 20 – 27% per year, putting the country among the fastest-growing markets in the region. Hai Phong has emerged as one of the localities with outstanding results.

Currently, more than 85% of nearly 30,000 private enterprises and nearly 205,000 economic establishments in the city are engaged in online business activities.

The city maintains the E-commerce Management Portal with a database of nearly 2,000 shopping locations; operates the trading platform www.hoaphuong.gov.vn, and supports businesses in joining major platforms such as Amazon, Alibaba, Shopee, Lazada, and Sendo.

A key highlight is the development of e-payment infrastructure. The city has partnered with commercial banks to promote cashless payments, expanding QR code scanning and e-wallet services at markets, supermarkets, and shopping centers. This ensures safe and transparent transactions while forming a synchronized digital payment ecosystem. It is considered an essential foundation for e-commerce to thrive.

However, the city still needs to continue investing in digital infrastructure and logistics for the former Hai Duong area, while promoting technological and human resource strengths in the eastern region. At the same time, it should encourage stronger participation from small- and medium-sized enterprises, train digital commerce human resources, and boost business-to-consumer transactions on the internet to directly connect products with consumers, effectively tapping into both domestic and export markets.
