The participation of international troupes at this year’s Red Flamboyant Festival has opened a multidimensional space for cultural exchange.
In recent days, the area around the City Theatre Square has drawn large crowds attending the festival. Among visitors awaiting international parades, many eyes were drawn to students from Nguyen Van To Primary School wearing traditional Korean Hanbok costumes.
Among the parade participants, Pham Khanh Linh, a fifth-grade student, smiled brightly throughout the event. “This is the first time I have worn Korean traditional costume. It is very beautiful and I am very happy,” she said.
Jeong Hosoon, a Korean visitor living and working in Hai Phong, stopped to take souvenir photos with the students. He said he was impressed to see local students wearing traditional costumes of his country during the festival. These moments reflect cultural diplomacy at the Red Flamboyant Festival – Hai Phong 2026.
This year’s festival carries a strong mark of integration through a rich series of international cultural exchange programs.
The Nanning Art Troupe (Guangxi, China), with around 30 artists, presented traditional dances, modern choreography and distinctive folk musical performances. At the same time, the Bujihwa Art Troupe (Republic of Korea), with 11 members, introduced traditional music, folk dance and contemporary drum performances.
An artist from the Nanning Art Troupe said this was her fourth visit to Hai Phong. ““Each time I return, I see the city changing, with a larger and more vibrant festival. This year, with many countries participating, the atmosphere is even more lively. We bring traditional performances of ethnic groups from Guangxi to introduce to audiences in Hai Phong,” she said.
Performances were held across multiple venues, including the City Theatre Square, Hoa Phuong Theatre, Hanh Phuc Lake Park and the Eastern Cultural Centre. It brings international culture closer to the public.
A key highlight this year is the exchange program marking the 20th anniversary of friendship ties between Hai Phong and Nanning. The event reflects the strong partnership built over the past two decades.
Through artistic performances, stories of history, people and cultural identity of each locality were conveyed in a vivid stage language. Music and dance served as a bridge connecting people beyond geographical distance and language barriers.
Inviting international troupes to the festival contributes to promoting cultural, tourism and people-to-people cooperation. This is also an important direction in Hai Phong’s international integration strategy.
International artists also expressed appreciation for the warm hospitality of the port city. Artist Pyo Suna from Bujihwa troupe said: “We are very impressed by the festival atmosphere and the friendliness of Hai Phong people. Performing here is not only an opportunity to introduce Korean culture but also helps us better understand Vietnamese culture.”
The two-way interaction between artists and audiences is a key factor in the success of cultural diplomacy. At a cultural exchange program held on May 8 at Nguyen Van To Primary School, the Bujihwa troupe, together with students from the school and Ngo Quyen Secondary School, took part in vibrant musical and artistic performances.
This is the fifth year Nguyen Van To Primary School has implemented Korean language teaching and learning programs. The initiative helps students access foreign languages, broaden cultural understanding, and strengthen connections and friendship between Vietnamese and Korean youth.
In the context of deepening international integration, cultural diplomacy is becoming an important channel for promoting local image. Through the Red Flamboyant Festival, Hai Phong not only showcases its cultural identity but also demonstrates openness, dynamism and readiness to connect with international friends.
With more than 60 cultural, artistic, sports and tourism activities, the Red Flamboyant Festival – Hai Phong 2026 continues to affirm its position as a flagship event of the port city. The participation of international troupes enhances the festival’s appeal and elevates its profile in the regional cultural landscape. It is not only an occasion to promote Hai Phong’s image but also an opportunity to connect and spread cultural values across nations.
