The passenger terminal T2 project at Cat Bi International Airport has officially broken ground, with a designed capacity of 5 million passengers per year and a planned expansion to 10 million passengers per year.
On the morning of August 19, the Ministry of Finance and Airports Corporation of Vietnam JSC., in coordination with the Hai Phong People’s Committee, held a groundbreaking ceremony for the passenger terminal T2 project at Cat Bi International Airport.
This is one of nine projects in Hai Phong among 250 major projects nationwide inaugurated or launched to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day (September 2).
Pham Van Lap, Deputy Secretary of the city Party Committee and Chairman of the city Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, attended the event.
The passenger terminal T2 project has a total investment of 2,689.8 billion VND, funded by Airports Corporation of Vietnam JSC. The project, located in Hai An ward, covers an area of about 23,200 m². It is designed with a capacity of 5 million passengers per year (equivalent to 1,500 passengers per peak hour), with a plan to expand capacity to 10 million passengers per year when needed.
Together with terminal T1 (currently under study for expansion to 3 million passengers per year), the project will contribute to the goal of raising the airport’s total capacity to 13 million passengers per year by 2030.
Passenger terminal T2 is designed with two above-ground floors, featuring separate departure and arrival levels. The terminal will be connected to the aircraft apron by four passenger boarding bridges, including three Code C bridges and one dual bridge capable of serving either one Code E aircraft or two Code C aircraft simultaneously.
Facilities include two baggage handling areas with 28 check-in counters (five of which are self bag drop counters), 14 self-service kiosks, two baggage loading conveyors, and three arrival baggage carousels.
Supporting facilities include an M&E technical area, a power station, a chiller plant, a wastewater treatment station, parking, landscaping, internal airport roads, lighting, and water supply and drainage systems, all meeting international standards.
The project is expected to be completed within 18 months after the investor receives the full construction site.
