On October 21, the Hai Phong Department of Industry and Trade, in coordination with the Vietnam E-commerce Association, held a program entitled “Young entrepreneurs entering international markets through e-commerce.” Participants included representatives of the Vietnam E-commerce and Digital Economy Agency under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Amazon Global Selling, experts and businesses.

According to the Department of Industry and Trade, e-commerce revenue in Hai Phong accounts for an average of 16 – 18% of total retail sales of goods and consumer services. Approximately 50 – 60% of small- and medium-sized enterprises participate in domestic and international e-commerce platforms.

During the 2026 – 2030 period, the city aims to have more than 70% of businesses adopt e-commerce, with sales through e-commerce accounting for 20 – 25% of total retail sales of goods and consumer services.

Hai Phong has advantages in industry, seaports and logistics, as well as a range of agricultural products, OCOP products, and handicrafts with export potential. Leveraging digital distribution channels offers businesses, particularly small- and medium-sized ones and startups, more opportunities to reach international customers.

To turn these opportunities into results, companies need to prepare comprehensively, from product selection and packaging and labeling improvement to brand protection, online store management, digital marketing and logistics organization. Training and consultancy activities should help businesses identify products with strong potential, necessary preparations and implementation approaches suited to their resources.

At the program, experts discussed policies to promote cross-border digital trade, skills for accessing international markets, the application of artificial intelligence and logistics for online export. They also discussed solutions to support young enterprises in developing international business.
