The city is accelerating final preparations for the annual cultural-tourism event, one of its most prominent highlights.

The festival is scheduled to open at 8 p.m. on May 8 at the city’s Political-Administrative Center Square, promising a distinctive artistic space recreating 71 years of construction, struggle and development.

The event also marks the anniversary of Hai Phong’s Liberation Day on May 13, and serves as a key highlight in a broader series of cultural, sports and tourism activities taking place throughout April and May.

According to the Hai Phong People’s Committee, the festival not only honors the city’s historical tradition of “loyalty and determination to win,” but also promotes the image of Hai Phong as a dynamic, innovative and internationally integrated city.

More than 60 cultural, artistic, sports and tourism activities have been planned from late March through the end of May, with a peak from May 8 to 14.

These include sports competitions, art exhibitions, tourism promotion programs, and ground-breaking and inauguration ceremonies for key city projects, offering broad opportunities for residents and visitors.

The opening ceremony, themed “Hai Phong – Convergence – Shine,” is set to begin at 8 p.m. at the Political-Administrative Center Square.

Earlier the same day, from 7:30 a.m., the city will hold an incense offering ceremony to commemorate heroic martyrs and Nguyen Duc Canh, the first secretary of the Hai Phong Party Committee, with the participation of city leaders, representatives of departments, agencies and the Hai Phong Fatherland Front.

The opening night will feature an artistic program lasting more than one hour, highlighting the city’s history and traditions while showcasing notable socio-economic achievements.

The program will be broadcast live on Vietnam Television VTV, with LED screens installed in public areas to allow wider public access.

A highlight of the evening will be a 12-minute fireworks display from 9:20 p.m. to 9:32 p.m. at the square, expected to light up the city skyline.

In May 2026, 15 major projects are set to be inaugurated or launched, including seaports, industrial parks, social welfare centers, and historical sites such as the K15 Wharf complex and the Cat Bi Victory Monument.

These projects are expected to boost socio-economic development while strengthening Hai Phong’s position in industrialization, modernization and international integration strategies.

First held in 2012, the Red Flamboyant Festival has, after more than a decade, become a typical brand of the city, playing an important role in tourism development and enhancing its standing on Vietnam’s tourism map.
