Tourist arrivals gather pace

In early June, the Do Son tourist area saw a noticeable increase in the number of visitors. Beaches were crowded in the afternoons and on weekends, while restaurants and hotels along the coastal road bustled with customers.

Tran Van Nam, a tourist from Bac Ninh province, said his family had chosen Do Son for this year's summer holiday because of its convenient location, reasonable costs and a wide range of services suitable for children, particularly the water park at Dragon Ocean International Tourist Area.

Cat Ba also recorded a sharp rise in visitor numbers as students entered their summer break. Steady streams of tourists headed to the island through Dong Bai ferry terminal, the Cat Hai-Phu Long cable car route and tourist boat terminals.

Many accommodation facilities in central Cat Ba and overnight cruises on Lan Ha Bay reported high occupancy rates on weekends. Sightseeing boats on the bay have been operating at full capacity to meet growing demand from visitors.

According to travel companies, families currently account for a large share of tourists. With its proximity to Hanoi and other northern provinces, convenient travel and an increasingly developed tourism infrastructure, Hai Phong remains an attractive destination for short summer holidays.

Pham Tri Tuyen, Head of the Department of Culture and Social Affairs of Cat Hai Special Zone, said Cat Ba welcomed more than 1.6 million visitors in the first five months of 2026, up more than 31% from a year earlier. Revenue from accommodation and food services exceeded 1.7 trillion dong, up more than 33% from a year earlier

With tourist numbers rising strongly from the start of the summer season, Cat Ba is expected to welcome more than 650,000 visitors in June, bringing total arrivals in the first half of the year to nearly 2.3 million. The figures are expected to provide a solid foundation for Cat Hai Special Zone to meet its tourism growth target for 2026.

Ensuring a safe tourism environment

Ahead of the 2026 beach tourism season, Do Son Ward and Cat Hai Special Zone have introduced a range of measures to strengthen tourism management.

Authorities have stepped up inspections of tourism service providers and installed warning signs at vulnerable locations. Checks have also been intensified on rescue operations at beaches and the operation of vessels serving tourists at sea.

Efforts to promote green tourism, environmental protection and compliance with listed prices have also been strengthened. Hotels, restaurants and entertainment venues have been urged to improve service quality, ensure food safety and strictly comply with regulations.

Tran Van Ngoc, Deputy Director of the Hai Phong Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said the tourism sector had coordinated with local authorities, businesses and relevant agencies to implement measures aimed at ensuring a safe, civilized and friendly environment during the summer tourism season.

Priority has been given to strengthening inspections of tourism services, ensuring compliance with listed prices, maintaining waterway and beach safety, enhancing rescue and emergency response capabilities.

Alongside efforts to improve service quality, the tourism sector continues to promote Hai Phong as a destination, expand the use of digital technologies to support visitors and foster a greener, safer and more attractive tourism environment.

The goal is not only to attract more visitors but also to provide better travel experiences, helping enhance the standing and competitiveness of Hai Phong's tourism industry in the years ahead.

With its distinctive coastal and island attractions, improving infrastructure and thorough preparations by local authorities and businesses, Hai Phong is reinforcing its position as northern Vietnam's leading coastal tourism hub and is ready to welcome a wave of visitors during this year's peak summer season.
