Optimizing tourism advantages

Hai Phong and Quang Ninh both possess abundant potential and advantages in natural landscapes, long-standing history, and rich cultural values for tourism development.

In particular, Quang Ninh has a 170-km coastline and a land border with China via Mong Cai international border gate. With its pristine natural scenery, numerous bays, islands, and renowned landscapes, Quang Ninh has long been a magnet for tourism investors and an attractive destination for both domestic and international travelers.

Similarly, Hai Phong boasts strong potential for marine tourism with popular destinations such as Do Son beach and Cat Ba island. The city also has abundant resources suitable for developing resort, entertainment, cultural, and spiritual tourism, as well as strong potential for urban tourism.

Over the past five years, Hai Phong and Quang Ninh have been increasingly connected through key transport routes such as Bach Dang and Lai Xuan bridges and Hai Phong – Quang Ninh expressway. The two localities share tourism hotspots like Cat Ba – Ha Long, the Bach Dang river, and the Yen Tu – Vinh Nghiem – Con Son, Kiep Bac heritage complex, which are gradually emerging as premium destinations in Vietnam.

Based on advantages in transport and natural geography, cooperation and linkage across multiple fields, particularly tourism, between Hai Phong and Quang Ninh have become essential.

Strengthening cooperation

At a recent meeting on cooperation in tourism development between Hai Phong and Quang Ninh, Nguyen Thi Hanh, Vice Chairwoman of the Quang Ninh People’s Committee, noted that there remain several issues requiring continued discussion and consensus between the two localities to address bottlenecks, support businesses, and further boost tourism development.

In response, Nguyen Minh Hung, Vice Chairman of the Hai Phong People’s Committee, suggested that the Departments of Construction of both localities jointly coordinate with relevant agencies to finalize coordination regulations on managing passenger and tourist vessels operating in Ha Long Bay and Lan Ha Bay.

Meanwhile, the Departments of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Hai Phong and Quang Ninh will urgently collaborate with related units to develop a tourism cooperation plan for the 2026 – 2030 period. The two localities aim for comprehensive collaboration in tourism promotion, new product development, visitor attraction, and improvement of State management efficiency, while also expanding multilateral cooperation with other provinces and cities around the Gulf of Tonkin.
