Hai Phong is supporting businesses in accessing policies, technology and capital to develop rooftop solar power, helping secure electricity for production, reduce costs and improve competitiveness.
The Hai Phong Department of Industry and Trade, in coordination with the Electricity Department under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, held a conference on September 28 to disseminate laws on rooftop solar power development and support and connect businesses, promoting the use of clean energy and enhancing competitiveness.
A leader of the Department of Industry and Trade said that along with the development of industry, trade and services, enterprises in the city are facing growing electricity demand, particularly in industrial parks, industrial clusters and facilities with high energy consumption.
Alongside ensuring a stable power supply, using electricity economically and efficiently and proactively harnessing clean energy can help businesses reduce costs, enhance energy self-sufficiency and meet market requirements for green production.
A representative of the Electricity Department recommended that enterprises consider rooftop solar power as part of their overall energy management and use, combined with electricity conservation, load management and energy storage.
Highlighting the need to develop on-site power sources, a leader of Hai Phong Power Company said electricity demand in the city is increasing by around 10-12% annually. On June 25, peak demand reached 3,483 MW, about 6% higher than the 2025 peak, underscoring the need to combine reliable electricity supply with economical and efficient power use.
With 2,250 customers having installed rooftop solar power systems, Hai Phong continues to promote the use of this power source to meet part of local demand and help ease pressure on the power system.
At the conference, delegates were briefed on policies for the development of self-produced, self-consumed rooftop solar power and mechanisms for direct power purchase and sale; investment, installation, grid connection and system operation solutions; and various forms of loans, green credit and financial leasing. Organizations also shared practical experience and the benefits of deploying rooftop solar power.
