Cooperation across multiple fields

In recent years, relations between Hai Phong and Czech businesses and partners have been strengthened through various cooperative activities. This is demonstrated by the fact that the city has welcomed multiple high-level delegations from the country.

In 2018, a delegation of the Czech Parliament, led by Deputy Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies Vojtech Filip, paid a working visit to Hai Phong. Subsequently, in May 2023, Deputy Speaker Jan Bartosek and a group of Czech parliamentarians visited the city, further reinforcing the official dialogue channel between the two sides and opening up opportunities for local-level cooperation programs.

In the field of culture and people-to-people exchanges, in 2022, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Vietnam cooperated with the Viet – Tiep Friendship Labor Cultural Palace to organize an exhibition of children’s paintings by Czech artists in Hai Phong. This was a distinctive cultural event that contributed to strengthening understanding and friendly ties between the peoples of the two countries.

Cooperation in science and nature conservation has also left an important mark. Recently, Cat Ba National Park and Palacky University Olomouc (Czech Republic) have implemented cooperation programs on biodiversity research and assessment of ecotourism service quality.

Consular work has also been maintained smoothly. In January 2023, Pham Truong was reappointed by the Government of the Czech Republic as Honorary Consul in Hai Phong for the 2023 – 2028 term, continuing to serve as a bridge supporting businesses and communities on both sides.

Import and export activities between Hai Phong and the Czech market have maintained positive growth. In 2024, export turnover through Hai Phong Port to the Czech Republic exceeded 9.6 million USD, while imports reached 3.69 million USD. In the first nine months of 2025 alone, exports amounted to over 16 million USD and imports hit nearly 4 million USD.

These results show that cooperation between Hai Phong and the Czech Republic has been maintained in a stable manner and has expanded in depth, forming an important foundation for both sides to move toward higher-value and more sustainable fields of cooperation.

The working delegation led by Secretary of the Hai Phong Party Committee Le Tien Chau to attend the Hai Phong Trade and Investment Cooperation Conference 2025 in the Czech Republic reflects the proactive external relations approach of the city’s leaders in seeking opportunities, promoting economic and trade cooperation, and advancing investment promotion between Hai Phong and European partners in the current context of deepening international integration.

Prior to the conference, the delegation visited and worked with the Embassy of Vietnam in the Czech Republic and met representatives of the Union of Vietnamese Associations in the Czech Republic and the Vietnam Business Association in the Czech Republic.

At the conference, Secretary of the city Party Committee Le Tien Chau introduced Hai Phong’s development orientations for the new period, with the vision of becoming an industrial, logistics, and international service center of Northern Vietnam.

He also emphasized the advantages of deep-water ports, modern transport infrastructure, and an abundant supply of cleared land in industrial parks, together with a system of competitive incentive policies that enable the city to attract strong investment flows associated with technological innovation, environmental protection, and high added value.

With the solid foundations built over the years, the Secretary of the city Party Committee expressed confidence that the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic will continue to succeed and become an important bridge between Hai Phong in particular and Vietnam in general and the Czech Republic and the European region.

Also at the conference, Vice Chairman of the city People’s Committee Le Trung Kien provided information on the city’s priorities in expanding cooperation with Czech enterprises in the fields of processing and manufacturing industries, high technology, clean energy, logistics, precision engineering, and pharmaceuticals.

Kien also affirmed that Hai Phong is committed to accompanying international investors through administrative reform, promoting digital transformation, and ensuring synchronized and modern industrial infrastructure.

Many Czech enterprises, including those owned by Vietnamese people in the host country, expressed interest in the Hai Phong market and proposed studying the model of a Hai Phong Trade Center in the Czech Republic to strengthen the promotion of local products, support businesses in accessing the European market, and boost bilateral trade promotion activities.
