Amid growing consumer concerns over health and the environment, many supermarkets and retail stores in Hai Phong are expanding their range of green products.

Previously, many consumers chose food mainly based on price and convenience. However, criteria such as origin, production processes, traceability and food safety certification are now increasingly important. In the context of counterfeit and low-quality goods in the market, consumers have become more cautious in their purchasing decisions.
Products certified under VietGAP, GlobalGAP, OCOP, or with clear production origins are increasingly preferred. Notably, the price gap between green products and conventional goods has gradually narrowed, making it easier for consumers to access these products.
Supermarkets have also reported noticeable changes in consumer behavior. At Co.opmart Hai Phong, products such as organic vegetables, VietGAP food and environmentally friendly goods are attracting growing attention.
According to a supermarket representative, young customers and young families are the main groups showing increasing demand for green products. Many actively seek information on product origin, production processes and quality standards. On average, the supermarket serves more than 1,000 customers per day.
Alongside supermarkets, clean food stores are also expanding. At Kyo Food Hai Duong store in Le Thanh Nghi Ward, the business focuses on developing green food product lines.

Beyond food, many supermarkets are also expanding environmentally friendly products to meet sustainable consumption trends. At GO! Hai Duong supermarket, items such as biodegradable bags, reusable fabric bags, recycled packaging products and eco-labelled goods are increasingly displayed on shelves.
According to Vu Thi Sen, Director of GO! Hai Duong supermarket, the store is implementing measures to encourage consumers to change habits and reduce the use of disposable plastic bags. Some reusable bag products are sold at no profit or offered under promotional programs to increase accessibility.
In recent years, sales of green and environmentally friendly products at GO! Hai Duong have grown by 5–8% annually. Vegetables, fruits and fresh produce remain the most popular product groups due to their link to daily health needs.
At Co.opmart Hai Phong, green consumption promotion programs are also regularly implemented. The supermarket offers loyalty point rewards to customers who use eco-friendly bags such as fabric or paper bags, and avoid plastic bags every Thursday. At checkout counters, staff also encourage customers to purchase eco-friendly bags at affordable prices.
Overall, the increasing diversity of green products on store shelves reflects not only the adaptation efforts of retailers but also a positive shift in consumer awareness. With increasing demand for sustainable consumption, green products are becoming popular, contributing to a more transparent, civilized and sustainable retail market.
