The Drug Administration of Vietnam (Ministry of Health) said that this summer, unstable weather and prolonged severe heat in many localities are increasing the risk of disease outbreaks, especially gastrointestinal diseases, dengue fever, hand-foot-and-mouth disease, and other heat-related illnesses.

In order to proactively ensure an adequate and timely supply of medicines for medical examination, treatment, and disease prevention and control during the summer, the Drug Administration of Vietnam under the Ministry of Health has issued a document to provincial and municipal Departments of Health; hospitals and hospital-based institutes under the Ministry of Health; and pharmaceutical manufacturing, export, and import establishments regarding the assurance of medicine supply.

The Drug Administration requested that relevant units urgently review their current stockpiles of medicines and pharmaceutical raw materials; assess the supply capacity of providers; and develop appropriate reserve plans, especially for essential medicines used in emergency care and treatment, to ensure a stable supply and prevent shortages in healthcare services and epidemic prevention for the public.

Pharmaceutical manufacturers and import-export enterprises are instructed to proactively develop production, import, and stockpiling plans for medicines and raw materials, and prepare contingency measures to ensure supply stability in case of market fluctuations or supply chain disruptions.

Provincial and municipal Departments of Health are required to strengthen monitoring of medicine supply in their localities and promptly compile and report difficulties or bottlenecks related to the supply of medicines and raw materials at healthcare facilities.

The Drug Administration emphasized that if any risk of medicine shortages or supply difficulties arises, relevant units must report promptly and in detail for review and for the Ministry of Health to issue timely directives.
