Since the beginning of the year, the number of international visitors to Cat Ba continues to rise sharply, accounting for a large proportion of the total tourist structure, creating important momentum for the locality to achieve its goal of welcoming 5 million visitors this year.
Since the beginning of the year, Viet Hai Island, Cat Ba has welcomed over 900 foreign tourists daily for sightseeing, dining, and relaxation. The surge in international visitors this spring has brought great joy to local households engaged in tourism, while also creating a more lively and exciting atmosphere on this remote island. With the current stable visitor numbers, Viet Hai Island is expected to receive over 2,000 tourists per day during the peak summer months of 2026, including additional domestic tour groups.
Cat Ba tourism is developing strongly. The favorable weather has increased tourists' demand for sightseeing and relaxation on Cat Ba, especially as the World Natural Heritage title continues to positively attract more international visitors than in previous years. Along with the surge in tourist numbers, total revenue from accommodation and dining services in the Cat Hai special zone reached over 140 billion VND, up 24% from the same period in 2025.
To maximize the value of the World Natural Heritage site for tourism attraction, in 2026, Cat Hai special zone will focus on developing Cat Ba into a ‘green island’ that integrates tourism growth with environmental protection and sustainable development, linked to implementing the green transformation of Viet Hai community tourism destination for the 2025-2030 period. The locality will also accelerate the progress of preparing the dossier to designate Cat Ba Island as a national tourism area and announce entertainment and recreation zones in the bays of Cat Ba archipelago.
