Seaports remain operational throughout National Day holiday

Working on holidays becomes a habit

With more than 10 years of experience as a port driver, Cao Duc Tuong works during every holiday for TIL Hai Phong Port TIL International Terminal Co., Ltd. (HTIT). Tuong said that because seaport operations run 24/7 throughout the year, working on public holidays has become a familiar routine for him and many colleagues at HTIT. “Working during holidays makes us even more aware of our responsibility and the need to maintain labor discipline so that we can complete our work and meet customers' requirements,” said Tuong.

Hai Phong's seaport area is increasingly leveraging its role as a gateway for direct imports and exports from northern Vietnam to markets around the world, particularly through the Lach Huyen deep-water port area. During the September 2 National Day holiday, the number of vessels calling at the port for cargo handling and the volume of goods passing through the port area are expected to increase.

Nguyen Viet Dung, Head of the Maritime Pilotage Department under Northern Vietnam Maritime Pilotage Co., Ltd., said that the company had worked out plans and arranged pilots to receive and guide vessels to ensure vessels enter and leave the port safely and on schedule. As the ports operate throughout holidays, pilots remain on duty aboard vessels and at the ports. In the three days of August 30, 31 and September 1 alone, there were 131 vessel movements in the city's seaport area, including arrivals, departures and relocations. Many of these were large container vessels and ships operating on routes to Europe and the US.

Making the most of every day to reach throughput targets

Le Hong Quan, General Director of Hai Phong Port JSC, said that in 2026, the company aims to handle 57.3 million tons of cargo, including 2.9 million TEUs of containers. Determined to exceed the set target by the widest possible margin, the firm proactively develops operating plans and opens new service routes to increase container throughput.

During the National Day holiday, Hai Phong Port maintains operations at 100% capacity. It has arranged personnel and equipment and developed scientifically designed operating plans at all its branches and affiliated port terminals to ensure the flow of goods is not interrupted. Container vessels calling at the port during the holiday are handled quickly and safely.

In 2026, Hai Phong's seaport area aims to handle 122 million tons of cargo, including 9.1 million TEUs of containers. In the first six months of 2026, cargo throughput at the city's seaports reached 60.5 million tons, up 8% and equivalent to 50% of the annual target; vessel calls and departures totaled 20,668, up 5% year on year.

According to Bui Nguyen Khoi, Director of the Hai Phong Maritime Administration, to achieve the 2026 seaport cargo throughput target, in the remaining months of the year, the administration will work alongside businesses to quickly resolve difficulties and support port operators, shipping agents and towing services in their operations. The agency is stepping up the application of information technology and coordinating to expedite vessel arrival and departure procedures around the clock.

From Chua Ve and Nam Dinh Vu to Lach Huyen, port terminals continue operating without interruption during the National Day holiday. Hundreds of vessels laden with goods bustle in and out of the terminals, further reinforcing the role of Hai Phong's seaports as an international trade gateway for northern Vietnam and the country as a whole.
