Hai Phong’s youth uphold tradition and shape the future
Building on the 70-year tradition of the Vietnam Youth Federation, Hai Phong’s youth are turning their commitment into action.
Patriotism in action, growth through service
In recent years, the “I Love My Fatherland” movement has inspired Hai Phong’s youth to take part in a range of initiatives. The “Proud of Our Homeland” campaign, which has seen thousands of maps of Vietnam displayed prominently in community spaces, and the “Stories from the War Years” project, which brings history closer to young people through engaging and accessible formats, have helped strengthen their sense of patriotism. The use of artificial intelligence (AI) to restore photographs of fallen soldiers has also helped preserve their memory and foster a sense of gratitude across generations.
Trinh Trung Tri Hao, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Youth Federation in An Quang Commune, has actively helped plan and implement the “Immortal Journey – Restoring Photographs of Fallen Soldiers” project, which has provided restored photographs to 26 families of fallen soldiers..
Other initiatives, including “Meals of Gratitude” and screenings under the theme “Red Rain – Keeping Memories Alive”, have brought veterans and young people together to share experiences. Such activities make history more accessible and engaging, allowing young people to connect with the past.
In An Thanh Commune, Tran Thi Mai, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Youth Federation in the commune, has helped raise VND 7 million for the Gratitude Fund and offered gifts worth VND 80 million for families eligible for social policy support. She has also helped organise medical check-ups, provide medicines and distribute gifts to 270 people eligible for social policy support, with the total cost amounting to VND 105 million.
As Hai Phong enters a new phase of development, with major construction projects under way and the urban landscape changing rapidly, young people are expected to bring knowledge, skills and a strong sense of responsibility to the table.
Guided by the motto “going door to door to help every resident”, volunteer teams have launched “Digital Summer” program to help people build their digital skills. Across Hai Phong, 115 youth volunteer teams involving 7,765 Youth Union and Youth Federation members are supporting these efforts.
Young people shaping the future
Following the merger, Hai Phong has a broader development base, creating more opportunities for young people to develop their abilities and pursue their ambitions. Youth organizations are placing greater emphasis on helping young people with education, career development, innovation and entrepreneurship, helping young people turn their aspirations into reality.
To date, the total outstanding balance of preferential loans channelled through the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies has exceeded VND 1.397 trillion, helping young people invest in production and business activities. In Nam Thanh Mien Commune, Youth Union and Youth Federation have helped 131 young people access more than VND 8 billion in loans to develop their businesses and pursue entrepreneurial and career opportunities.
Creating a better future also means ensuring that every young person has the opportunity to reach their potential. The Hai Phong Club for Youth with Disabilities has helped connect members with vocational training and jobs, while providing support to develop their livelihoods. These efforts have helped 380 people with disabilities find employment.
Speaking at a ceremony marking the 70th anniversary of the Vietnam Youth Federation, Hoang Minh Cuong, Vice Chairman of the Hai Phong People’s Committee, called on young people to strengthen their ideals, moralityand resilience; uphold the nation’s fine traditions; broaden their knowledge, master science and technology, foster creativity, and have the courage to think big, take action and take responsibility.
