Tan Vu Terminal expands international car carrier operations
Hai Phong Port’s Tan Vu Terminal has safely handled more than 541,000 vehicles transported by RoRo vessels over the past 10 years.

Hai Phong Port JSC held a ceremony on October 9 to mark 10 years since the first roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) vessel arrived at Tan Vu Terminal (October 8, 2016 – 2026).
The event was attended by representatives of shipping lines NYK Line, “K” LINE and ECL; automakers Toyota, Ford and Mitsubishi; logistics companies; and other partners.
10 years ago, on October 8, 2016, the first Modern Link vessel arrived at Tan Vu Terminal, carrying more than 500 cars. Since then, RoRo operations at Hai Phong Port have handled nearly 400 vessel calls, receiving and processing approximately 541,000 vehicles smoothly. This has reinforced Hai Phong Port's position as the largest gateway for automobile imports and exports in northern Vietnam.
Speaking at the ceremony, Le Hong Quan, General Director of Hai Phong Port, emphasized the port's commitment to continuing to prioritize vehicle safety, increase handling capacity, improve vehicle handover and delivery services, and accelerate digitalization to better meet customer needs.
Yokoyama, representing “K” LINE, praised the expertise and professionalism of Tan Vu Terminal's operations team. Close coordination among the terminal, shipping lines and relevant authorities has helped ensure vehicle safety, improve service quality and build trust over the past decade.
Yusuke Sasada, Director of NYK Line's Automobile Business Division, recognized the significant development of RoRo services at Tan Vu Terminal. From approximately 5,500 vehicles handled across six vessel calls in the first year, annual throughput has now increased to nearly 69,000 vehicles across 42 vessel calls.
In recognition of its continuous improvement in operational quality, Hai Phong Port received the Zero Damage certificate from “K” LINE and the Zero Accident certificate from NYK Line for its RoRo operations in 2025.
In 2026, for the first time, two RoRo vessels, the Bangkok Highway operated by “K” LINE and the Procyon Leader operated by NYK Line, were handled simultaneously at Tan Vu Terminal.
Since July 2026, weekly operations have officially been implemented, opening up opportunities to expand capacity and improve service quality.
