Expanding on-site power supply for production
Rooftop solar power is providing an additional on-site source of electricity, enabling many businesses in Hai Phong to meet part of their energy needs while reducing costs.
Powering production on site
According to Hai Phong Power Company, as of the end of August 2026, a total of 2,250 customers across the city had installed and put rooftop solar systems into operation. The combined capacity reached 92,155 kW, with estimated annual electricity output of around 65 million kWh.
Of these customers, 2,045 were individual households, with a combined installed capacity of 18,997 kW. The remaining 205 customers, including production and business establishments, agencies and other organizations, had a combined capacity of 73,158 kW. Thus, non-household customers account for less than 10% of the total number of customers but contribute nearly 80% of the total installed capacity in the city.
Hai Phong Power Company has installed rooftop solar systems at 32 offices and working facilities, with a total area of approximately 6,700 square meters. The systems have a combined capacity of 1,348.1 kW and are estimated to generate around 860,000 kWh of electricity annually.
In addition, 87 employees of the company have installed rooftop solar systems at their homes, with a combined capacity of 746 kW and estimated annual output of around 500,000 kWh.
For rooftop solar development, the company has drawn up a citywide development plan and assigned specific targets to its affiliated units for surveying, consulting and supporting customers. It also regularly reviews implementation difficulties and works to resolve obstacles as they arise.
Expanding the customer base
Hai Phong is home to numerous industrial parks and economic zones where businesses consume large amounts of electricity for production. Alongside existing factories, new construction and expansion projects are creating additional rooftop space that can be surveyed and used for solar installations.
This on-site electricity can be used directly by businesses while their production lines are operating, helping meet part of their electricity demand.
According to Hai Phong Power Company, VSIP Hai Phong, Trang Due, Nam Dinh Vu, DEEP C and Do Son industrial parks, as well as industrial parks currently undergoing expansion, still have considerable potential for rooftop solar development.
In addition to manufacturing facilities, logistics facilities, warehouses, shopping centers and office buildings with daytime electricity demand are also potential locations for rooftop solar installations.
To support customers, Hai Phong Power Company has assigned its affiliated units to conduct surveys, provide consultation and guide customers through grid-connection procedures.
Direct engagement with high-power-consuming businesses enables the power sector to better understand the electricity needs of individual factories while advising them on suitable solar systems. Installation and operation must ensure electrical safety.
Developing on-site power generation is also part of Hai Phong's efforts to ensure sufficient electricity supply for economic growth. Resolution No. 11-NQ/TU, dated July 15, 2026, issued by the Hai Phong City Party Committee, calls for the synchronized development of the power system to ensure sufficient, stable and safe electricity supplies for socio-economic development.
The resolution sets a target of increasing rooftop solar power capacity by approximately 3,440 MW during the 2025–2030 period.
