Promoting cultural life among workers

Authorities, sectors and trade unions in Hai Phong are placing increasing emphasis on improving workers’ cultural and spiritual well-being, helping them feel secure in their jobs and stay with their employers for the long term.

The musical performances by the Hai Phong Contemporary Arts Theatre received an enthusiastic response from workers at Sanhua Vietnam Co., Ltd. (An Duong Industrial Park).

Bringing culture closer to workers

In mid-June 2026, as part of a conference to launch the “Socialist Trade Union Grassroots Organization” model, a large number of workers at EVA Hai Phong Precision Industry Co., Ltd. (VSIP Industrial Park) enjoyed artistic performances by artists from the Hai Phong Contemporary Arts Theatre. Songs performed by singers Thu Huyen, Khanh Ngoc and Hoang Vuong created a vibrant and emotional atmosphere.

For workers whose daily lives revolve around production lines, machinery and continuous shifts, having a cultural program right at the workplace provides a valuable opportunity to relax. Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy, a company worker, said that due to the nature of her job, workers have little time to attend cultural and artistic programs outside the workplace. Therefore, activities organized directly at the company help workers relieve stress after work. She hopes more similar programs will be brought to workers.

This is also an approach that Hai Phong Trade Union is actively promoting. Since the beginning of 2026, the city’s Trade Union, in coordination with the Hai Phong Economic Zone Authority, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and arts organizations, has organized nearly 50 performances and touring programs for workers at their workplaces.

Efforts to improve workers’ cultural and spiritual well-being are becoming increasingly diverse and closely aligned with their actual needs. Since mid-May 2026, the city’s Federation of Labor has launched a free wireless internet access system at 90 “Safe and Civilized Workers’ Housing Areas” in the communes and wards of An Phong, Thuy Nguyen, Duong Kinh, Do Son and Vinh Bao. With 103 internet connections, the system serves nearly 4,000 workers and is being expanded in a second phase to around 200 rental housing areas.

Mr. Le Van Duy, from Nghe An and working for a company in Thien Huong Ward, said that after work, smartphones are a primary means of entertainment, keeping up with information and staying in touch for many workers living away from home. Free Wi-Fi therefore enables workers to study, access information, relax and communicate with their families more conveniently.

Building a modern and sustainable cultural environment

After 10 years of implementing Directive No. 52, dated January 9, 2016, of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat on strengthening the Party’s leadership in improving the cultural and spiritual well-being of workers in industrial and export processing zones, this work has gradually become a regular task involving Party committees, local authorities, businesses and socio-political organizations, with the Trade Union playing a key role.

Over the past 10 years, Hai Phong trade unions at all levels have disseminated laws and regulations to more than 995,000 union members and workers. To date, 85% of workers in the city’s industrial parks and economic zones have had access to activities aimed at raising awareness and improving their cultural and spiritual well-being.

The city currently maintains 24 cultural and sports clusters for workers, civil servants and employees. Meanwhile, 82% of grassroots trade unions in industrial parks organize cultural and sports activities, attracting an average of more than 578,000 workers each year.

In 2026 alone, the “Healthy and Beautiful Strides” mass running event attracted nearly 150,000 participants; Hai Phong Workers’ Day drew around 5,000 participants; and the online photo contest “I Am the Sunshine of March” received more than 11,200 entries.

Various models, including “Socialist Trade Union Grassroots Organization,” “Safe and Civilized Workers’ Housing Areas,” and “10 Minutes of Performance – Radiant All Day,” have been implemented to meet the needs of different groups of workers. In particular, the “Huong Cong – Hai Phong Trade Union” app has created an additional digital space for connection, making it more convenient for union members to access information and support services.

Hai Phong Trade Union aims that by 2030, more than 90% of union members and workers will receive information and education on Party guidelines and State policies and laws; 70% of workers will receive training to improve their professional skills; 75% will be equipped with life skills; and 65% will receive training in digital technology knowledge.

To achieve these targets, Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, Chairman of the Hai Phong Federation of Labor, said that, together with the city’s entire political system, trade unions at all levels will focus on fundamentally renewing their content and methods of operation, with union members and workers at the center. The focus will be on improving the quality of representation, caring for and protecting workers’ legitimate rights and interests; proactively understanding their concerns and aspirations; strengthening dialogue and collective bargaining; and building harmonious, stable and progressive labor relations in businesses.

Trade unions at all levels will continue to maintain and improve models aimed at enhancing workers’ cultural and spiritual well-being, including “Socialist Trade Union Grassroots Organization,” “Safe and Civilized Workers’ Housing Areas,” cultural and sports clusters for workers, civil servants and employees, and cultural activity venues in workers’ rental housing areas.

Cultural, artistic, physical education and sports activities will continue to be diversified and adapted to the specific needs of shift workers, creating more meaningful recreational opportunities, contributing to a civilized working environment, improving workers’ cultural and spiritual well-being, and strengthening their connection with their employers.
