Sixth grader wins three golds in mathematics
A sixth-grade student in Hai Phong has won three consecutive gold medals at international and national mathematics competitions during the summer of 2026.
Tran Ngoc Duy, a Class 6D1 student at Tran Phu Secondary School in Le Chan Ward, Hai Phong City, has won three consecutive gold medals at domestic and international mathematics competitions this summer.
Most notably, Duy won a gold medal at the international final of the Asian International Mathematical Olympiad (AIMO) 2026, which brought together around 1,300 contestants from 22 countries and territories.
He then won a gold medal at the national round of the Fermat Mathematical Olympiad (FMO).
Duy's third gold medal came at the national round of the American Mathematics Olympiad (AMO). The test was conducted in English, requiring contestants to demonstrate both mathematical thinking and reading comprehension skills to understand and tackle the requirements of each problem.
The three gold medals won in the summer of 2026 have added to Ngoc Duy's achievements since primary school. When in grade 5, he won the FMO, took first prize in the final round of a competition organized by the Institute of Mathematics, and also won numerous gold medals and first prizes at competitions such as TIMO, ASMO, SASMO, SIMOC and the Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC).
In addition to his aptitude for mathematics, Duy won second prize in the school-level Vietnamese Language Scholar competition and achieved high results in geography and history competitions on the VioEdu platform.
Duy's achievements have added to the record of outstanding academic performance at Tran Phu Secondary School in particular and Le Chan Ward in general.
