Meaningful spaces for exploration

On the first day of the National Day holiday, many destinations across Hai Phong recorded an increase in visitors. Instead of taking trips farther afield, a lot of families, groups of friends and visitors chose attractions closer to home, which were convenient to reach and offered opportunities to learn more about the history and culture of their hometown.

Hai Phong Museum is among the destinations attracting large numbers of visitors. Its exhibits, which feature significant historical value, along with impressive architecture and displays, offer the public additional perspectives on Hai Phong and its people through the artifacts and documents presented there.

Visiting Hai Phong Museum’s Facility 1 at 66 Dien Bien Phu Street, Hong Bang Ward with her friends on the morning of August 30, Pham Hai Anh, a student at Vietnam Maritime University, said: “During this holiday, we chose not to travel far but instead came to the museum to learn about the culture and history of our hometown.”

Alongside museums, many young people are also choosing cultural destinations as a way to make their holiday more meaningful. At the Con Son - Kiep Bac Special National Relic Site, many visitors arrived early in the morning to offer incense, tour the site and learn about the historical and cultural values associated with this land of rich traditions. The mountainous setting, lush scenery and experiential activities add to its appeal during the holiday.

An estimated 1,265 visitors came to the site on the first day of the holiday. Notably, cultural experience activities make the destination more approachable and appealing to visitors, particularly families with young children.

The bustle at destinations on the first day of the holiday shows the appeal of short, convenient trips that still offer rich experiences. With its diverse system of relics, scenic sites, museums, cultural spaces and entertainment venues, Hai Phong has many advantages in meeting the sightseeing and leisure needs of residents and visitors during the National Day holiday.

Beyond tapping into the value of its relics and scenic sites, Hai Phong is creating new experiential products in the city center. A highlight this holiday is the launch of the Night Market as part of a series of activities serving residents and visitors. In just the first two days after opening, the Night Market attracted tens of thousands of visitors to explore, experience and enjoy local specialties.

A series of special art programs are being held throughout the holiday, including an art program at the City Opera House Square on the evening of September 1 and a community arts program at the Youth Cultural Palace on the evening of September 2. Numerous other cultural, artistic, and sports activities are also being held before, during and after the holiday in communes, wards and special administrative zones, spreading the National Day atmosphere from the city center to local areas.

The combination of relic sites, cultural spaces, arts, food and entertainment is creating diverse experiences for visitors. In addition to providing more leisure and entertainment options during the holiday, the series of activities shows that Hai Phong is gradually making effective use of public spaces, arts and food to develop distinctive experiential products. This is also a way to bring cultural values closer to the public, particularly younger generations and first-time visitors to the city.
