Hai Phong Night Market opens

The opening of the Hai Phong Night Market helps promote the value of local cuisine, urban landscapes and nighttime services.

The Hai Phong People's Committee held the opening ceremony of the Hai Phong Night Market along the city's central strip on the evening of August 28, adding a new space for cultural and culinary experiences, contributing to the development of the nighttime economy and creating a new highlight for the city's tourism.

The program opened with artistic performances featuring the distinctive character of the port city by the Hai Phong Contemporary Arts Theater.

This was followed by a parade featuring the Military Band of Military Region 3, children, artisans, folk clubs, lion dance troupes and representatives of food stalls, creating a lively atmosphere and launching the journey to explore "One street - countless flavors."

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Le Trung Kien emphasized that Hai Phong is a seaport city where many cultural regions converge, while also possessing a distinctive cuisine: flavorful, open, rustic yet refined; familiar yet highly appealing.

Promoting culinary values therefore not only meets the dining needs of residents and tourists but also contributes to preserving and spreading traditional cultural values, creating distinctive tourism products, promoting the nighttime economy and showcasing the image of Hai Phong, Trung said.

He affirmed that the night market is also a space for businesses, food establishments, artisans and chefs to introduce products, connect, innovate and expand their business activities.

The city aims to gradually build a modern, professional and digitalized Hai Phong culinary ecosystem, encourage digital transformation and cashless payments, improve service quality and build a civilized and safe business environment, Trung added.

At the opening ceremony, Do Thanh Trung, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee and Chairman of the City People's Committee, joins residents in singing the song “Ben Cang Que Huong Toi” (My Hometown Port).

Notably, the digital food map integrated into the Smart Hai Phong app, launched on August 26, is one of the new utilities helping residents and tourists search for information and explore the city's cuisine. The city is also providing free Wi-Fi in the central strip and night market areas, facilitating the use of digital utilities and experiencing the city's nighttime life.

Shortly after the opening ceremony, city leaders and delegates toured the food area and sampled and experienced the culinary demonstration activities.

The culinary demonstration program takes place from 6:30 pm to 9 pm in the central strip, featuring six stalls showcasing specialties such as Tu Ky ruoi (ragworm), steamed rolled rice cakes, Japanese and Turkish dishes, crab spring rolls, Hai Phong chrysanthemum tea and crab noodle soup.

The night market and street art activities will continue from 6 pm to midnight every Friday and Saturday in the central strip and around the City Opera House from August 28 to October 24.

The highlight is more than 30 stalls featuring specialties and OCOP products of the city. Along with delicious food, visitors can enjoy street art programs at three venues: the stage in front of the City Opera House, Tran Hung Dao Street and Quang Trung Street.
