Science and technology platforms are opening up opportunities for young people in Hai Phong to research, experiment, and turn ideas into practical products.

Inspiring ideas, spreading passion
In early August, the atmosphere at Vietnam Maritime University became vibrant as Techfest HaiPhong 2026 took place under the theme "Converging intelligence - Setting sail for innovation."
More than a showcase of new technologies, Techfest HaiPhong provides an environment where students can connect with experts and businesses, helping them develop an innovation mindset while still at university.
At Techfest HaiPhong 2026, Hai Phong University introduced seven products developed by its lecturers and students. Highlights included a force-feedback robotic gripper for smart industry, an autonomous robot with Industry 4.0 applications, and an automated bottle-capping and labeling system.
According to Dr. Nguyen Van Tho, a lecturer in the Faculty of Technology and Engineering at Hai Phong University, this year’s projects demonstrate strong quality and practical applicability, reflecting students’ ability to master technology and the university’s commitment to research driven by real-world needs.
Beyond Techfest HaiPhong, the city has continued to organize various programs that nurture creativity. One notable initiative is “Hai Phong – Startup Innovation Café,” launched by the Department of Science and Technology in 2024. The program brings topics such as green transition, artificial intelligence (AI), and entrepreneurship to schools, helping spread the spirit of innovation among young people.
Nurturing a passion for scientific research from schools

Science and technology competitions organized by colleges and universities have attracted large numbers of students, highlighting the growing appeal of research and digital transformation among the younger generation.
During nearly three months following its launch, from January to March 2026, the competition “Young Hai Phong – Digital Thinking Touching AI,” co-organized by FPT Polytechnic College, sparked a vibrant culture of innovation in schools. As many as 20 junior high schools registered for the idea round, presenting solutions that apply artificial intelligence to learning and everyday life.
In May, the 2025 – 2026 Science and Technology Innovation Competition at Sao Do University also drew strong student participation in fields including industrial robotics, AI, and automation. Many projects showcased creative thinking while aiming for commercial potential and practical solutions to production challenges.
Nguyen Cao Thang, Member of the Hai Phong Party Committee and Director of the Department of Science and Technology, said that fostering a passion for science and technology requires more innovation competitions and playgrounds in schools, giving students opportunities to challenge themselves, accept failure, and continue pursuing their aspirations in science and technology.
