Hai Phong youth promote green lifestyle
Young people in Hai Phong are taking the lead in environmental protection and gradual formation of a green and sustainable lifestyle across communities.
From small actions
In mid-July 2026, more than 120 Youth Union members and youngsters in Duong An Commune formed four teams to launch the campaign "One Youth Union member, one green lifestyle." Each participant committed to at least one practical action, including reducing the use of plastic bags and single-use plastics, sorting waste at source, planting and caring for trees, etc.
After four drives, local youth planted more than 500 shade trees on the campus of Binh Giang Senior High School and distributed 1,000 propaganda leaflets to more than 300 vendors at markets.
The commune Youth Union plans to maintain and expand the model, carry out more activities to encourage more Youth Union members, young people, and children to contribute to building a green, clean, and civilized Duong An Commune.
In Tu Ky Commune, the local Youth Union launched the community outreach model "Promoting the use of biodegradable plastic bags at Yen Market" in mid-June. Through a series of awareness campaigns, 1,000 leaflets and 5,000 biodegradable plastic bags were distributed, helping residents and market vendors gradually change their habits.
Nguyen Thi Lan, a vendor at Yen Market, said the campaign helped her better understand the long-term environmental impact of plastic waste after receiving guidance and complimentary biodegradable bags from Youth Union members and youngsters.
Taking the lead for a green Hai Phong
In Cat Hai Special Zone, where the ecological environment is closely tied to tourism and local livelihoods, youth activities have focused on protecting forests and the sea. Since May, the special zone Youth Union has worked with grassroots Youth Union chapters, businesses, and local organizations to organize peak days in support of new-style rural building and green transition, including planting more than 200 Nageia fleuryi and Chukrasia tabularis trees in the core area of Cat Ba National Park. Youth teams have also regularly cleaned litter hotspots, joined coastal clean-up activities at Cat Don Beach, and planted 200 trees on Cat Dua Island.
Citywide, since the beginning of 2026, all commune, ward, special zone, and affiliated Youth Union chapters have organized three rounds of Green Sunday, attracting more than 15,000 Youth Union members and young people. Activities included environmental clean-ups, landscape improvement, tree planting and care, building of flower-lined roads, and upkeep of youth-managed streets that are bright, green, clean, and beautiful.
According to Do Duc Chinh, Deputy Secretary of the Hai Phong Youth Union, Youth Union chapters across the city will continue focusing environmental protection efforts on practical and sustainable actions while making greater use of technology and social media to raise awareness and expand effective models. The goal is not only to mobilize more Youth Union members but also to build awareness of a green lifestyle and encourage changes in the behavior of every young citizen.
