Chairman of the Hai Phong People's Committee Do Thanh Trung expressed hope that US partners would develop cooperation programs to expand opportunities for education, employment, and career development.

Do Thanh Trung, Deputy Secretary of the Hai Phong Party Committee and Chairman of the Hai Phong People's Committee, hosted a working session with a delegation from the US House of Representatives led by Congressman Tim Walberg, Chair of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, on August 13.

The delegation visited Hai Phong to study the city's policies on technical and vocational education, apprenticeship programs, and talent development and discuss opportunities to strengthen US – Vietnam cooperation in vocational training, higher education, sustainable supply chains, and economic development.

Speaking at the meeting, Chairman Do Thanh Trung welcomed the US congressional delegation's decision to choose Hai Phong as a destination to learn about the city's workforce training, vocational education, and talent development policies. He noted that discussions on cooperation in workforce development, higher education, sustainable supply chains, and economic growth are of strategic importance to Hai Phong in its new stage of development.

The chairman expressed his hope that the visit would lead to cooperation programs aligned with real-world needs, thereby creating more opportunities for learners to access education, employment, and career development. He affirmed Hai Phong's commitment to facilitating cooperation programs on education, training, research, and human resource development, while ensuring close coordination among the city authorities, educational institutions, and the business community. Such efforts, he said, would deepen practical and effective cooperation between Hai Phong and US partners and positively contribute to developing the Vietnam – US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The US House of Representatives delegation thanked the city's leaders for their warm reception and expressed admiration for Hai Phong's socio-economic progress, modern industrial and logistics infrastructure, and urban planning.

The delegates emphasized that education is the cornerstone of developing a highly skilled workforce and achieving sustainable economic growth. They also voiced their desire to expand bilateral cooperation in vocational training and academic exchange, encourage US educational institutions to establish branch campuses in Hai Phong, and promote stronger engagement and investment by US businesses in the city's sustainable supply chains.
