36 localities in Hai Phong develop greenhouses and net houses
Hai Phong is a typical locality in the development of greenhouses and net houses in northern Vietnam.
According to the Cultivation and Plant Protection Sub-department under the Hai Phong Department of Agriculture and Environment, 36 wards and communes across the city have developed greenhouses and net houses, covering a total area of nearly 140 hectares.
Among them, Truong Tan Commune has the largest greenhouse and net house cultivation area in the city, with more than 97 hectares. It is followed by Tran Hung Dao Ward (3.7 hectares), Luu Kiem Ward (3.5 hectares), Thanh Mien Commune (3.25 hectares), etc.
Investment in greenhouses and net houses is relatively high, ranging from VND 300,000 to VND 350,000/ m2, but generates much higher economic returns than conventional farming. Farmers grow high-value crops such as muskmelons, grapes, flowers and hydroponic vegetables.
In addition, agricultural experience models have been developed in greenhouses and net houses to further improve economic efficiency. After deducting costs, farmers earn profits of VND 800 million to VND 1 billion per hectare per year.
