Hai Phong strengthens cooperation with U.S. to develop smart seaports
A Vietnam-U.S. seaport cooperation workshop recently held in Hai Phong aims to share international port governance practices and improve the efficiency of seaport operations.

The Vietnam-U.S. Seaport Cooperation Workshop opened in Hai Phong on July 13, with the Hai Phong Economic Zone Authority working alongside the Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) under the U.S. Department of Commerce to host the event.
The conference brought together representatives from the U.S. Embassy in Vietnam, international experts, regulators, and enterprises operating in the seaport and logistics sectors.

The workshop served as a forum for Vietnamese and American experts to exchange international experiences in port governance, the landlord port model, public-private partnerships (PPP), and closer coordination among regulatory agencies, while also discussing solutions to improve the efficiency of seaport operations and logistics chains.
One of the key topics was the development of a Port Community System (PCS) to promote data sharing, improve transparency, and reduce time and costs across the supply chain.

Many advanced port governance models from around the world were introduced for reference and comparison with Hai Phong’s reality. Participants also analyzed bottlenecks in management, infrastructure connectivity, customs, and logistics, and proposed solutions to enhance the competitiveness of the city’s seaport system.
Through the workshop, Hai Phong continued to expand cooperation with U.S. partners in seaport and logistics, access advanced governance practices, and contribute to improving management models, promoting digital transformation, developing green and smart ports, and raising the operational efficiency of the seaport system in the context of international integration.
