A modern interchange

On June 16, 2026, at the construction site in Phu Thai commune, a large number of vehicles moving on a part of the bridge in both directions between National Highway 5 and Hai Phong city.

Newly finished approach roads carried lines of cars across the roundabout, producing a bustling scene at the western gateway of Hai Phong’s transport network.

From above, workers and machinery have been mobilized to complete the final items.

Completing an inter-regional link

The finished project will form a key inter-regional link, widening development space in western Hai Phong.

The project has a total investment of VND 1,867 billion, with the central government’s funding of more than VND 1,000 billion. Construction began in December 2024.

Designed as a Grade-I transport facility, the project includes a main bridge and eight ramps, with a bridge deck width of 19 m. The main approach roads run for more than 1 km with cross-sections from 24 m to 40 m; service roads on both sides extend over 1.3 km.

Once finished, the interchange will separate traffic flows between National Highway 5, National Highway 17B and the Hanoi - Hai Phong railway, helping ease congestion, reduce traffic accidents and improve the capacity of the key corridor linking Hai Phong City with neighbouring localities.

Together with the Kinh Mon river overpass, the project is gradually creating an integrated transport corridor from the Kinh Mon area along National Highway 17B to National Highway 5, the Hanoi - Hai Phong expressway, National Highway 18 and Hai Phong’s port system. The new axis will connect western Hai Phong with Kim Thanh, Kinh Mon, Chi Linh and Quang Ninh, facilitating goods movement, attracting investment, and supporting industrial, commercial and logistics growth.

To date, the project reaches about 96% of work-items, and is expected to be finished in August 2026. Once being completed, it will help complete the planned transport infrastructure network, strengthen regional links, and drive socio-economic development while expanding development space in the western region of Hai Phong city.
