Strong demand, prompt solutions

The city currently has three economic zones and 45 established industrial parks, covering a combined area of about 60,800 hectares. These zones are home to nearly 1,400 operating enterprises and more than 360,000 workers. Businesses in the city's industrial parks and economic zones are seeking to recruit more than 30,000 additional workers.

In 2026, a number of companies, including Hyundai Kefico Vietnam Co., Ltd. in Dai An Industrial Park, Global Material Handling Co., Ltd. in Deep C 2A Industrial Zone and XiongTai Vietnam Co., Ltd. in Nam Dinh Vu Industrial Park, are looking to hire large numbers of workers to support production expansion and fulfil orders.

Hoang Thi Trinh, Vice Chairwoman of the trade union at XiongTai Vietnam Co., Ltd., said most of the company's equipment is automated. As a result, the company is seeking workers with expertise in electronics, industrial electricity and automation. To improve recruitment quality, the trade union has advised the company's managers to sign cooperation agreements with several vocational training institutions in the city to secure a suitable workforce.

Amid digital transformation, the green transition, deeper integration and growing demand for high-quality human resources in Hai Phong, students need to equip themselves with knowledge, foreign language skills, technological capabilities, soft skills and adaptability.

According to Tran Anh Khang, Director of ABB Robotics Vietnam Co., Ltd., students should focus not only on academic knowledge but also on practical skills, particularly the use of technological tools in the workplace. He said soft skills, including project management, teamwork and time management, are also essential. To narrow the gap between academic study and practical training, the company has signed a memorandum of understanding with Hai Phong University to provide students with hands-on learning opportunities.

Expanding partnerships, introducing new initiatives

Efforts to strengthen labor supply for industrial parks are receiving growing attention from government agencies and institutions.

The Hai Phong Department of Science and Technology held the second technology supply-demand matching session in mid-June 2026, bringing together eight research institutes and universities for 30 one-on-one meetings. In addition, two on-site consultations and surveys were conducted at enterprises, laying the groundwork for future cooperation and technology transfer activities.

Human resource development is one of the city's strategic breakthroughs and plays a decisive role in enhancing competitiveness and ensuring sustainable development. In recent years, the Hai Phong Economic Zone Authority has signed cooperation agreements with several localities and leading training institutions nationwide, including Hanoi University of Science and Technology and SunEdu International Education JSC, to strengthen training links and supply skilled workers to businesses in the city. Closer coordination among the government, educational institutions and businesses is seen as key to improving workforce quality.

To strengthen labour supply-demand connections, attract skilled workers to live and work in Hai Phong and create more stable jobs for workers from both within and outside the city, the Hai Phong Youth Union, the Hai Phong Economic Zone Authority, the municipal Military Command, the Department of Education and Training and the Department of Home Affairs signed a cooperation program in early June 2026. The program aims to attract, provide career guidance and introduce jobs for local workers and workers from other localities at industrial parks, economic zones and the Hai Phong Free Trade Zone during the 2026-2030 period.

On June 16, the Standing Committee of the Hai Phong Party Committee reviewed and gave opinions on several related issues. Le Ngoc Chau, a member of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, secretary of the Hai Phong Party Committee and head of the city's National Assembly delegation, who chaired the meeting, stressed policies and orientations on developing rental housing and housing for workers. He also called for the implementation of tasks assigned by the government regarding rental housing development.

He requested continued reviews of housing demand among workers and experts, while linking housing development with technical infrastructure, social infrastructure and essential services to meet the development requirements of industrial parks and economic zones across the city. These measures are expected to help attract workers from other provinces to Hai Phong, supporting the city's sustainable development.
