High tides raise flood risk along Hai Phong coast amid localized heat

The Hai Phong Hydro - meteorological Station warned that peak water levels along the city's coastline could reach 390-400 cm on the evening of June 18, increasing the risk of localized flooding in low-lying areas.

According to the weather agency, skies across the city are expected to remain mostly cloudy on June 18, with no rain forecast. Conditions are expected to turn sunnier around midday and in the afternoon, with localized heat affecting some northwestern and southwestern areas. Maximum temperatures are expected to range from 34 to 36 degrees Celsius.

In the administrative center and around the City Theatre, temperatures are forecast at 27-34 degrees Celsius.

Northwestern parts of the city are expected to see temperatures of 28-35 degrees Celsius, while southwestern areas could reach 28-36 degrees Celsius. Humidity is expected to range from 75% to 80%.

Along the coast, including Cat Hai Special Zone and Do Son, skies are expected to remain mostly cloudy with no rain before turning sunny around midday and in the afternoon. Temperatures are forecast at 27-34 degrees Celsius.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are forecast over the Gulf of Tonkin and Bach Long Vi Special Zone. Strong gusts may occur during thunderstorms. Visibility is expected to exceed 10 km, falling to 4-10 km in rain.

Along with the hot weather, coastal areas of Hai Phong are expected to continue experiencing high tides.

The Hai Phong Hydro - meteorological Station said peak water levels along the coast could fluctuate between 390 cm and 400 cm on the evening of June 18. Localized flooding may occur in low-lying coastal areas and near the estuaries of the Bach Dang, Lach Tray, Van Uc, Moi and Thai Binh rivers.

The weather agency advised residents, particularly those living in coastal areas, to take measures to protect rice crops, vegetables and aquaculture farms, while ensuring safety for transport and marine tourism activities during periods of rising tides.
