These days, farmers in Thanh Ha Commune, Hai Phong, are busy harvesting lychees during the peak harvest season.
Thanh Ha Commune is the largest producer of main-season lychees in Hai Phong, with more than 500 hectares under cultivation. Originating from the “mother lychee tree” planted in 1870, Thanh Ha lychee has become a renowned specialty of the region. The quality and appearance of Thanh Ha lychees are widely recognized as exceptional and have been granted Geographical Indication (GI) status, the highest level of protection for the reputation and branding of agricultural products. This year, unfavorable weather conditions have reduced overall production. However, many growers in Thanh Ha have still achieved good harvests thanks to the application of modern farming techniques and scientific methods that help mitigate the impact of adverse weather.Local farmers have actively adopted cultivation techniques that allow lychee trees to produce fruit over an extended period. This helps reduce harvest-time pressure, prolongs the harvesting season, and increases economic value. Many lychee orchards still bear green fruit and are expected to be ready for harvest within the next 7–10 days. Agricultural authorities have advised farmers not to harvest immature fruit for sale, as doing so could affect the quality and reputation of Thanh Ha lychees. To ensure the best quality and appearance, farmers typically harvest lychees in the early morning.Lychee prices vary from day to day. At present, premium lychees intended for gifts are selling for around VND 55,000–60,000 per kilogram, while lychees sold through purchasing stations range from VND 35,000–45,000 per kilogram depending on quality.Traders purchase Thanh Ha lychees for distribution throughout Vietnam as well as for export to international markets.
