Cold air mass triggers widespread heavy rainfall in northern Vietnam
A cold air mass is set to bring widespread heavy rainfall across northern Vietnam, increasing the risk of thunderstorms, lightning, hail, strong winds, flash floods and landslides in several areas.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the cold air mass will begin affecting northern mountainous areas from the evening of June 8 before spreading to the Northeast, parts of the Northwest and the north-central region.
On the morning of June 8, northern Vietnam recorded scattered showers and thunderstorms in some areas, while isolated thunderstorms occurred in the Northwest.
Forecasters said the cold air mass would start affecting northern mountainous provinces from the evening of June 8 before expanding to other parts of the Northeast, some areas in the Northwest and the north-central region. From the night of June 8, the Northeast and Thanh Hoa are expected to turn cooler, with minimum temperatures ranging from 22 to 25 degrees Celsius.
The Northwest, along with northern parts of Phu Tho and Tuyen Quang provinces, is expected to see rainfall of 80-160 mm, with some areas receiving more than 300 mm.
Thanh Hoa and Nghe An provinces are expected to see moderate to heavy rain, with rainfall totals of 60-120 mm and more than 200 mm in isolated areas.
From the evening of June 8 through the early morning of June 9, other parts of northern Vietnam are forecast to experience moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms, with rainfall totals of 20-50 mm and more than 100 mm in some areas.
