Hai Phong's Jan-May CPI rises 3.78%
Hai Phong's consumer price index (CPI) rose 3.78% in the first five months of 2026 from a year earlier.

According to Hai Phong Statistics Office, the city's CPI in May 2026 increased 0.47% from April and 5.44% from the same month last year.
Average CPI in the January-May period rose 3.78% from a year earlier.
The CPI increased across most essential goods and services groups in the first five months of the year, reflecting pressure from input costs, energy prices, rising consumer demand and the impact of adjustments to public service prices.
Housing, electricity, water, fuel and construction materials recorded the largest increase, rising 8.6%, mainly due to higher prices of kerosene, cooking gas, construction materials, electricity and water amid supply constraints, rising input costs and stronger demand during the hot season.
The transportation group rose 5.17% as higher fuel prices pushed up passenger transport and freight service costs. However, prices of used cars declined due to abundant supply and a shift toward electric vehicles.
Beverages and tobacco rose 3.9%, while other goods and services increased 3.73% due to higher raw material and labor costs, as well as rising gold prices.
Food and catering services rose 3.52%, mainly driven by higher prices of food products, vegetables, meat, eggs and dining-out services. Rice prices, however, declined due to ample supply and stronger export competition.
The education group rose 2.03% as some private educational institutions increased tuition fees, while household equipment and furnishings increased 2.07% amid stronger demand for electrical and cooling appliances during the summer.
Culture, entertainment and tourism services rose 1.35%, while pharmaceuticals and healthcare services increased 1.1% due to higher input costs and stronger healthcare demand during the seasonal transition.
