Green Bach Long Vi Island
Officers and soldiers of the Bach Long Vi Island Defense Battalion not only keep their weapons ready but also overcome hardships to build a formal, bright, green, clean, and beautiful barracks.

The ‘bright, green, clean, and beautiful’ barracks
Bach Long Vi is a remote island in the Gulf of Tonkin, exposed year-round to harsh sun, wind, and sea salt.
In the early days, much of the barracks area was hard and barren due to coral rock, with sparse vegetation and many spots frequently damaged by sea winds. Facing that reality, the Party Committee and battalion command determined that to build a strong, well-disciplined unit, they must create a well-kept, clean, and beautiful living environment to improve the soldiers' spiritual life.
Thus, the unit launched multiple emulation movements tied to landscape development such as ‘Green Saturday’, ‘Standard Barracks’, and ‘One good deed for the environment each week.
Despite the harsh climate, flowers bloom along the barracks roads in all four seasons, and the trees stay lush and green.
A notable feature of the unit's landscape work is the proactive, creative spirit of its officers and soldiers. Many models reuse old materials like tires, wood, and paint cans to create flower beds, stone benches, and activity areas. Barren patches of land have been converted into vegetable gardens to serve the soldiers’ daily needs.
Regular discipline and training

To make the construction of a standard, bright, green, clean, and beautiful unit a regular, sustainable movement, the Party Committee and battalion command always pay a special attention to propaganda and education to enhance officers’ and soldiers’ awareness.
During implementation, leaders at all levels set examples by taking the lead. They work side by side with troops in labor, caring for green spaces, and reinforcing the barracks. That exemplary spirit has motivated officers and soldiers to actively participate and sustain the movement effectively.
Thanks to these persistent efforts, the appearance of the Bach Long Vi Island Defense Battalion today is increasingly well-kept, standardized, and greener and cleaner. Rows of trees stretching in the sea wind, and clean roads not only reflect the island soldiers’ will to overcome difficulties but also express their love and responsibility for the nation's sacred frontier land.
